Memoria was amazing, it really stuck to me for some reason. Even after all these years it's the one game I really remember and every time I think about it, I feel a bit melancholic.
Pillars of the Earth is another acclaimed game, I really should play it, it's in my backlog for a while now.
This may be their first internal development but they are a fantastic game publisher already! They take a lot of chances publishing weirder stuff and it pays off a lot of the time. My favorites are:
Outer Wilds
Journey
Stray
What Remains of Edith Finch
Donut County
Gone Home
Kentucky Route Zero
I kind of look at them as the A24 of games (nevermind that Annapurna Pictures is a thing) where they have excellent taste in choosing what odd features to publish and give a chance despite not creating them themselves. It at least suggests they care about the artistry of the product to a point where I'm expecting that same standard in their first hands-on development.
I'm currently loving a bunch of games in the factory building genre so can I offer you some Dyson Sphere Program in these trying times?
Imagine factorio but you're in a mecha suit building factories spanning multiple planets eventually multiple stars, to build exponentially more complex resources until you're able to shoot swarms of dyson reflectors and eventually build a rigid sphere in orbit.
Still in Alpha after several years, but exquisitely polished, runs fine on legacy machines, excellent responsive dev team, combat is being added soon.
Ok, I've sent [up][left][left][left][down][down][down][down][right] bitcoin to the address [up][up][down][down][left][right][left][right]...[enter]. I hope you're happy now.
TNT has about 4.2x10⁶J/kg, so I get about 36kg of TNT.
But I ignored the front and back Domes, which will add a bit, and possibly have other issues as well, so the ballpark should be right.
Maybe it developed stick drift and kept bashing them into the Titanic.
I had that happen once. Only it was a Logitech flight stick and I was playing Elite Dangerous. Things can get pretty scary in space when you always yaw left.
Chrono Trigger, the battle with Magus. Most boss battles in any game have a really high beats per minute, or awesome high energy track. The music for this boss fills you with a sense of dread and fear. I remember the first time I played it, I had goose bumps.
Oh yes, Chrono Trigger most certainly. I was so shocked the first time I got to THAT specific Lavos fight in the game. I'd never seen that happen in a game before.
In Metal Gear Solid for the original PlayStation, there was a boss fight against Psycho Mantis, who was a psychic who could predict your every move. The fight was literally impossible. It didn't matter what you did, he always had the perfect counter. Of course, he would taunt you about his ability to predict your every move.
My brother and I were absolutely stuck on the fight for what seemed like forever. At one point, a character mentions that he's reading your controller and you can block him by switching to the 2nd control port. So you physically unplug your PlayStation controller and plug it into the other port. Then he reacts by not being able to read your moves, and you can actually fight him "fair".
It blew my mind the first time it happened. I can't remember a video game ever breaking the forth wall like that before.
I loved the fight so much. The way Mantis read the data for other games off your memory card was just so cool; such a clever way to mess with the player.
How Is this unpopular ?!
I was a Ps guy at the time, but my friend had the GC. As soon as I tried the controller I felt in love with it. To this day I still think that GC controller is the most ergonomic controller I've ever held.
The ABXY layout was really nice. With the modern standard, there is often some mix up as to which button is “accept” and which is “cancel”. The GameCube controller, with its big Mashable A button left nothing to interpretation. The X and Y buttons were comfortably placed as well.
Oh lord yes the GameCube controller is pure sex. Only way to play smash :) Amongst all other attributes people have mentioned, love the walls of the analog stick, it feels so much better not having a smooth smooshy full globe of movement, I want to smash that shit in a direction and feel hard contact
It’s so true for me that I have Gamecube controllers for Wii U and Nintendo Switch. Recently I bought a Joycon-like that mimics the GC controller. It’s awesome!
Everyone in this thread gets an upvote. It wasn't until a few years ago when I soft modded my Wii to start playing GameCube games that I held the controller again. Damn! That is such a comfortable controller. It's still my favourite of all of them.
Some games may live on through Pretendo, an open source replacement for Nintendo’s servers for both the 3DS and Wii U, allowing online connectivity even if the original servers are discontinued.
No, it’s success is because it’s extremely addicting. Especially for people with ADHD because there’s so many small and easily achieveable dopamine hits that’s easy to get lost for hours.
I dont think you can fix the limitations of a 15 year old engine with patches. I didn’t buy it but I watched my friends who did stream it from start to finish. I am 100% sure these NPCs are operating off of Oblivion code.
