Hey, can anyone tell me some games where you start off in a trashed base, or even just ruins, and you've gotta fix it up?
Bonus points for sci-fi, NPCs who'll move in, and town management.
Prefer not first person perspective, but will still look at #gaming#recommendation#openToAll
That other game by the group that made Tyranny, where there was the... mansion, I think? Or was it pillars? Or were the pillars specific to Tyranny? It's been years. I liked that, would have liked more stuff to do with those bases, especially if I could like, have little NPC groups to assign to stuff that'd affect the world.
@MachineLordZero Pillars of eternity gives you a ruined keep you have to fix. Tiranny doesn't have a base, only the spires.
I'd recommend bastion for a game with fin reconstruction mechanics
@falcennial@MachineLordZero heh, dungeon keeper is a great game but the one I was actually thinking of was graveyard keeper! Sorry for confusing everyone.
@MachineLordZero ehh, it's probably not exactly what you're looking for, but mindustry is scifi and some scenarios have leftover ruins that you can take over if you choose to (but often easier to delete and build your own). no npcs, no town management.
Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress sound like they would fit the bill unless you're specifically looking for an RPG.
Owlcat's Pathfinder RPGs have base building aspects, Rogue Trader is (imo) a superior game but doesn't have quite as much in the way of base building.
The original Xenoblade Chronicles has a colony with a lot of quests surrounding upgrading and rebuilding it. Plus it's a fantastic game, you'd need some form of Nintendo console though.
@MachineLordZero Fallout 4 is great for this. I have never completed the main plot, but the cleaning-up-the-wasteland and base-building aspects are epic.
@MachineLordZero Possibly not exactly what you're going for, but the closest thing that springs to mind for me is Waking Mars. You start off in a dormant Martian ecosystem and have to grow plants to gain seeds to grow plants that open up new areas. It doesn't exactly involve a "base" as such but there is a steadily growing area of Mars that you're building up and making safe(r).
@MachineLordZero Infocom’s Suspended is a very different take on this idea, if you’re into interactive fiction (and dying a lot - the game is not easy!)
