@BrodieOnLinux@thelinuxEXP
I actually started using #AI summarizers to get the #transcript version instead of watching / listening.
It removes all the bickering, pauses, ads, sponsors & saves time. And gets straight into what you're discussing about.
I miss the old days where people write blogs instead of recording themselves & making statements.
Reading / writing is still a more scholar choice than listening / watching caz you're activating your brain better.
You’re stimulating many more of your senses, since you have to listen to/ understand what is being said, and your eyes are used way more to follow the transitions and changes in the video.
@mahenderkar@BrodieOnLinux@thelinuxEXP unless you are like me and only move your eyes until you realize that you actually didn't read the last paragraph. 😅
@MonkeyPanic@BrodieOnLinux@thelinuxEXP
Well, skimming through text is an amazing skill. Visual stimulation doesn't let you move your eyes as much as reading does.
And the audio spoonfeeds you to listen, whereas reading forces you to grasp the information better in your own pace & sit into your skull.
There are no generalities in how people’s brain works, apart from the chemical interactions. Some people are more receptive to audio, some to video, some to written text :)
@thelinuxEXP@MonkeyPanic@BrodieOnLinux It's very interesting to compare dramatic entertainment content to textual information.
First of all, audiovisual imagery can sell drama way better than any other media. But when it comes to sharing information, nothing beats the text.
It's concise, takes less bytes, gives the reader ability to skim, i.e, faster to process.
@thelinuxEXP@MonkeyPanic@BrodieOnLinux
The programs & softwares that you run is "written in code". The blogs that you refer to tell the news through RSS feeds, are text. The comments & feedback that you receive, is text. If everyone starts replacing these with audiovisuals, that'll never sustain.
That's why content creators will probably never be called themselves as journalists or bloggers.
#MichealLarabel from #phoronix, an amazing blogger, is a great example, who works his ass off btw.
@mahenderkar@thelinuxEXP@MonkeyPanic@BrodieOnLinux And that’s exactly what I’m saying: text isn’t better for everything. Visuals are better for some things and for some people, text is better for other things.
One isn’t better than the other for everything and for everyone.
@thelinuxEXP@MonkeyPanic@BrodieOnLinux Even if a picture is worth a 1000 words, it can convey way different meanings to different audience. But text can convey exactly what it wants to mean to the reader.
It's like #GNU philosophy. Do only one thing at a time, but do it well.
Here I am just referring to the audience mindsets & how their sense of information gathering has been changed due to the technological development.
@mahenderkar@thelinuxEXP@MonkeyPanic@BrodieOnLinux Again, inaccurate. A graph, for example, doesn’t convey information differently for different people. A table, a screen capture, a video recording for a tutorial: text is less efficient for these.
@mahenderkar@thelinuxEXP@MonkeyPanic@BrodieOnLinux And yet some people just don’t react the same to that. Some people see 5 paragraphs of text and flee. Some people don’t read well.m, or don’t assimilate text as well as video.
Everyone processes things differently, as I said, there are no generalities about the human brain.
@thelinuxEXP@MonkeyPanic@BrodieOnLinux
It's because the audience crave entertainment more than the information itself. This became a lot more common after the post millennial / gen y era due to the boom in virtual audiovisual capabilities. And this'll be even intense in thw upcoming future.
And hence creators took this fact & started framing careers out of it.
@mahenderkar@thelinuxEXP@MonkeyPanic@BrodieOnLinux No, that’s not true. People like entertainment, sure, but some people just prefer a visual drop of information to text. Not because their brain has been polluted, but because their brain reacts to images better, and understands the content better in this way.
@thelinuxEXP@MonkeyPanic@BrodieOnLinux
One isn't easier than the other. Both texts & video production are equally challenging when done with heart & mind.
@mahenderkar@thelinuxEXP@MonkeyPanic@BrodieOnLinux No, definitely not. Writing an article about a topic isn’t easy, but when you make a video, you have the same amount of research and writing, and you add recording and editing on top of that ;) Definitelt way more time consuming.
@thelinuxEXP@BrodieOnLinux
Common Nick. Compiling your RSS feeds & picking up the news ain't that hard compared to the video production. But my point is that whether the recording & editing are worth doing so or not. The thing I like about your content is that you also share your researched news feeds in the description. That saves my precious time btw.
@mahenderkar@thelinuxEXP@BrodieOnLinux I’m talking about writing a script in general. When I write a distro review, with 13000 characters, or an opinion piece on a specific topic, the research time, and writing time is huge. The video making part is even longer.
Compiling the news takes 1h per day, plus 3h on Saturday to make the video. The compiling / reading / summarizing takes longer than the video production in that case ;)
