Imho all #governments in all countries on all levels should communicate via the #fediverse, instead of via commercial services. Why should a profit-maximizing feed #algorithm, and an ad placement algorithm get between the citizen and their government in a democracy?
@ArtBear@evan@J12t Love the idea but don't see a compelling reason for govts to invest in Mastodon when Twitter already has a funded, scalable, redundant platform with adoption, SecOps, support... w/out taxpayer funds.
Agencies looking at Mastodon would likely need:
☑️DDOS protection
☑️DR/redundancy/SLAs
☑️Backup
☑️Governance policies
☑️Compliance auditing
☑️Content filtering
☑️Update mgmt
☑️Cybersecurity
This is why I'd like a hardened, managed, govt-mission centric Mastodon service. 👍
@evan a #lemmy group that only collects links to government-operated servers? Plus some metadata (insert some magic here) that links those to geography / jurisdiction, from which a map can be rendered, and perhaps Wikipedia could be populated…. Just thinking out loud.
@evan@J12t One issue here is that many of the European locations represent EU offices rather than local governments, so I might have to figure out a better way to present this.
@J12t All democratically elected governments of the free world should be active on their own Mastodon instances - it's a matter of credibility, integrity & honesty.
