I think I am 50% done finding a quadrafecta : a simultaneous hit piece against & .

This one only manages to trash talk and , so it has some ways to go.

https://stefanoborini.com/why-r-is-the-new-perl/

PS 1Gotta admit that the point about the object systems in R is somewhat spot on
PS 2 gets a dishonorable mention
PS3 I will continue to find ways to continue using all 4 of the aforementioned languages, as they are all performant and deliver in complementary ways.

BobOHara,

@ChristosArgyrop trash talking PERL is easy - even Larry Wall did it

@BobOHara @ChristosArgyrop Some examples of Larry taking the piss:

“I’m reminded of the day my daughter came in, looked over my shoulder at some 4 code, and said, 'What is that, swearing?”

"Perl is worse than because people wanted it worse.”

"Guilty as charged. Perl is happily ugly, and happily derivative.”

"The camel has evolved to be relatively self-sufficient. On the other hand, the camel has not evolved to smell good. Neither has Perl.”

So, I’m building a dependency-injection package, and it’s a lot of fun. I’ve gone a route that I don’t really see many, if any, following. I suspect it may be that a lot of the solutions out there are old, and while they have been updated, they’re still going to inherit certain approaches.

@ramsey I happen to already have an example screenshot for this!

@ramsey There are also a number of others, like the Shared, Provider, Scope, and Factory attributes.

I'm looking for a solution to branch-based previews for a / stack. We have nearly 60 sites we want to set this up for (a lot of services I find either charge $1000s or don't even support that many).

I don't want anything fancy, I don't need to edit in the browser. I would like to push a branch to gitlab and have the option to spin up an environment to preview.

I have considered doing it myself, but I was hoping to not have to support my own infrastructure.

@mikestreety @ramsey after reading all the different replies to your post I would like to add couple of benefits of handling this on Cloud Run:

  • scale down to 0. So you only pay if you are using it (sending it traffic.)
  • same service on cloud run can have multiple versions live. (I create 1 service per repo and multiple versions for each PR with unique urls)
  • you have the option to create/attach a DB to each version/service or use production DB .

@gcg @ramsey Ah, that is cool. What would be the killer feature is if it doesn't spin up until the URL is access & then shut down after ~10 mins of inactivity.

Devs & Ams would have no problem waiting a minute or two for it to startup to preview it

@phpc Replace all the Ps with PHPs.

Just like PHP mostly got reduced to overriding/replacing eCommerce framework functionality with custom code.

Finished client work for the week so spending a bit of time on side projects. Just closed two outstanding issues on my repository for bootstrapping PHP applications using the Slim framework, bringing the total down to zero.
