‘I Serve With Some Real Scumbags!’ GOP Rep. Goes SCORCHED EARTH on Far-Right Colleagues, Claims Gaetz ‘Paid Minors To Have Sex With Him At Drug Parties’

Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) stunned CNN’s Dana Bash on State of the UnionSunday with a scorched earth rant on far-Right House members.

“So, you voted yes on the foreign aid package,” Bash addressed Gonzales. “Do you have confidence that at this point, given that it is still possible that Marjorie Taylor Greene will push to vacate, to kick (Mike Johnson) out of the Speaker’s chair, that he can survive?”

“He will survive,” Gonzales said. “Look, the House is a rough and rowdy place, but Mike Johnson is gonna be just fine.”

GrymEdm,

First Republican representatives Ken Buck and Mike Gallagher resigned in protest of what’s happening in their party and left early to make it hurt. Earlier I read about a Murdoch-owned, Trump “favorite” newspaper mocking MTG with the headline “Nyet, Moscow Marjorie”. Now there’s this story. Maybe, just maybe, we’re starting to hit the limits of what GOP extremist politicians can do openly without self-sabotaging consequences. The timing of this infighting erupting into public view is just icing on the cake.

corsicanguppy,

left early to make it hurt

But, crucially, just late enough so there’s no interim member in their seat.

But not enough of a spine to flip their votes and actually help

aStonedSanta,

Yeah. It’s interesting. It’s good but it’s not great I guess?

At the end of the day, when the sun sets on their careers, when the last of any paltry consequences cease to apply, conservatives would still rather salt the earth to spite their peers than water a tomato plant to help their rivals.

They don't know how to make friends. They only know how to ruin. Today they happen to be ruining each other, but don't forget they ruined the rest of us first.

Goes scorched earth, yet reveals absolutely nothing we didn’t already know.

meco03211,

About the only new information this is likely to reveal is if he humped his cousin on video or maybe had a picture of himself in lingerie. Then he’ll get primaried.

sudo42,

“Only if he gets caught with a live boy or a dead girl.”

CaptainSpaceman,

Hows Nestor these days?

aStonedSanta,

Someone publicly talking about it on live television from his own party that survives ONLY on sticking together on the party line… I’d say we learned a lot tbh. 🙏🙌

Mastengwe,

Watch how fast nothing happens as a result.

JeeBaiChow,

You only comply with what you will be prosecuted/ suffer consequences for. For the GOP, it’s not much, unfortunately. For the colored guy from the inner city, it’s plenty.

some_guy,

“Wow! Ok, I should say that the federal government did look into Matt Gaetz and those allegations and they decided not to prosecute,” Bash said.

Cause not prosecuting always means innocence. I haven’t been prosecuted for any of the drugs I’ve taken so apparently I’ve never been high.

stevedidwhat_infosec,

If by scorched earth you mean just confirms what everyone has been saying about republicans and projecting since like 500 BC

Rapidcreek,

Gonzalez faces a primary run-off at the end of May.

Four different right wing challengers held him to under 50% in the March primary.

Matt Gaetz has come into the district to campaign against him (which doubtless contributes to his words there). The runners up are endorsing his opponent (who is a far right Latino “second amendment activist” named Brandon Herrera – oh so cleverly using “Let’s Go Brandon” as a campaign theme.)

While Gonzalez is considered the favorite, the fact that the incumbent was forced into a primary run-off is never a good sign.

The district is a 53-46% Trump/Biden seat. The population nearly 2/3 Latino, but probably close to Anglo white voting majority due to issues of citizenship, age, and lower voting participation by Latinos in rural Texas. It include the site of the Uvalde massacre. It could end up in play in a strong Democratic year - especially if a candidate to the right of Gonzalez is the nominee.

shalafi,

Used to watch Herrera’s gun videos until he let it all hang loose. Love me some Gun Tubing, but if politics comes in, I’m out. And you can guess what sort of politics come out every time.

ours,

Thankfully we have TFB TV and Forgotten Weapons for non political guntubers. American gun politics are so annoying and convoluted with extrêmes on all sides.

Thanks, this is a great summery of the politics behind the interview. Moist appreciated.

Wytch,

“He will survive […] Kevin McCarthy Mike Johnson is gonna be just fine.”

he’s gonna take one for the team and get a room with Marge.

Railing5132,

pretty sure it’s unviable…

howler monkeys and lizzardmen just aren’t compatible.

Dagwood222,

He could switch from GOP to Independent.

ganksy,
@ganksy@lemmy.world avatar

If he still votes with them 90% of the time I’m not sure what that would achieve

Serinus,

Not before the election he can’t.

Dagwood222,

There’s no reason, legal or otherwise, that stops someone from changing their Party affiliation while in office. It’s happened before.
