The fate of humanity lies our courage.
If we are courageous and we are HONEST with ourselves and each other, we can build a better future for all and ensure the very worst impacts of climate change are minimised.
If we are cowards and we are DISHONEST with ourselves and each other, then we are fucked!

"Was davon trifft auf den Klimawandel zu?
Es ist zu spät zum Handeln. Alles wird gut.
Die Antwort? Beides ist nicht wahr.
...
Es ist nicht zu spät. Es ist nicht in Ordnung.
Es ist genau die Zeit, eine bessere Welt zu fordern."

@torb@ClimateAdam@rosemarymosco Trees, bikes, wind power, activism. Where's the "not having children" representation? Isn't that the single biggest contribution people can individually make to climate change?
@kf6nux@ClimateAdam@rosemarymosco No. That’s an ecofascist* talking point designed to excuse the west and shift the blame to the global south. The fact is that the west polutes far more despite our lower birth rates.
@torb@ClimateAdam@rosemarymosco I was unaware of that, and surprisingly it's my progressive/weed-smoking/hippy/essential oil/crystal-powers friend that told me about it, so I don't think it's limited to just the far right.
I didn't consider the angle of it being used to promote racism.
It stands to reason though, doesn't it? Fewer humans means fewer demands to unsequester carbon?
@kf6nux@ClimateAdam@rosemarymosco In principle you could make the argument that carbon emission is NUMBER_OF_PEOPLE ✖️ CARBON_EMISSION_PER_PERSON and reducing any of those variables might help. However, in practice what we see is fairly low emissions in countries with large populations. And generally speaking: large scale projects to control human populations is close to eugenics in practice and a dangerous thing to be close to.
Regardless, the way you get people to have less children is to make society less brutal (less poverty, less starvation, better infrastructure, etc…) anyway. In the west birth rates have become so low that many countries would be in trouble if not for immigration (very rapid population decline can cause it's own problems, tho, I personally believe they can be overcome).
The big challenge is how to create sustainable societies in two ways: a society in which people’s needs are met and we don't overstep the ecological limitations of our environment. I absolutely think that can be done though.
@torb@ClimateAdam@rosemarymosco that seems correct. But it will make many people see themselves in the middle. Nothing will change. The grafic should be broader with more pics and show a vertical line where we are...
@torb@ClimateAdam@rosemarymosco
I agree 100% but it's hard to fight with optimism.
How to act effectively against liberal governments making climaticide decisions (Fracking and oil extraction in the US, pesticides in France, coal in Germany, rise of prices of public transportation in Switzerland, etc) without a strong civil movement?
And this movement seems soooo far to reach. Before being clearly threatened, most people in rich countries are on "business as usual" mode, even if we become poorer and sicker...
@ryanrandall@ClimateAdam@rosemarymosco Thanks! I’ve added her handle as well. Again, if she posts the comic herself I’ll just delete my post and reblog that.
(If they want me to take down the post for whatever reason I’ll do that as well of course.)
@ryanrandall@ClimateAdam@rosemarymosco I was a bit uncertain about posting it in the first place since sometimes people post other people’s stuff and they get the attention and not the originators (this post has gotten more traction than anything I’ve ever posted on any social media platform).
However, I figured the creators would probably want the message to be spread anyway, so I posted it. I’ve find it an very useful idea to introduced to people who tend to either be doomers or aphetic about climate change.
@torb@ClimateAdam@rosemarymosco It's a delicate balance. I mean that both about sharing other people's work and about sharing resources that encourage hope but don't ignore reality.
From my little vantage point, it seems like you're not centering yourself and instead are encouraging better outcomes for everyone involved.
That's certainly an appropriate I hope to see more of in the world. So again, thank you!
I don't think the transition to renewables is being talked about honestly. Particularly the ecological devastation being caused due to mining for battery minerals.
There are very few voices talking about the need to consume less across the board.
@torb but it's important to say that you going to work by bike is just too little action. People should demand from governments harsher sanctions against companies and industries that don't comply to harder measures.
@torb this is great but it's not enough to demand change, because the people we're demanding it from benefit from the status quo. Now is the time to be the change and to make it impossible for the ststem not to change.
