Having spent a few hours catching up on allegations and how concerns and grievances have been handled by #Fosstodon admins so far I wonder if it's time for my first #FediMove to an instance more aligned with my values (and one that lets me emit the occasional toot in 🇩🇪).
Problem is, I don't know where to go 😓
My dream instance has always been chaos.social - any #recommendations for an #instance along similar lines?
@axwax I'm looking to move from mine too. They have semi-blocked both two big ones (supposedly spam), fosstodon and universeodon (no idea why this one), so many posts in my feed show they have comments but I never see them until I ''open the original post.
So admins might be as clean as distilled water, but it's no fun without conversations, and who knows how many comments under my own posts I never see.
Things that are most important to me to find in my local timeline are #Makers, #Music, #Sustainability, #Wildlife, #Geese and #Goats and a ton of other things, so an instance predominantly talking about #FOSS has never been the perfect fit for me, and I've noticed I spend less and less time on my local feed.
While we had open registration for a little while when it was hard to find an instance, just as Elon's Twitter purchase was going through, we returned to restricting it to members of our Discourse forum (itself with open registration!) once things returned to normal.
The idea is that it's one Maker Forums community with two communications tools.
So anyone who likes our server rules and wants to participate in our Discourse according to the rules there is welcome.
I don't remember getting any reports of abuse against members, at least. (I've gotten reports by members of spam originating off-site.) So I think we are welcoming.
But I have seen several other instances focusing on makers. I just haven't focused on finding them. 😁
@3DPrintingDad@axwax Here's the information on joining Maker Forums Social — joining Maker Forums Discourse and participating there for a bit (getting to what Discourse calls "Trust Level 1" based on their experience with community building. ❤️)
Back in December @Beerbruin made a list of about 300 making-related fediverse accounts, which I had imagined might help identify even more maker-centric fediverse instances.
@3DPrintingDad@axwax@Beerbruin Ah, if you visit the blog post containing Blaise's list, you can download his maker list. (It looks like wordpress doesn't like makersocial.online as a referrer, perhaps?)
From there, you can select "Follow Makers" and whether you import it or just use it to find where makers are, it might be helpful for getting connected to #makers across the fediverse.
Funnily that list was partly based on (and massively expanded upon) a makers list I compiled last year, but had abandoned. It's a small (Makers) world 😀
I think I might eventually move to chaos.social as an instance after all, as it might cover my non-making interests just a little bit more and as a bonus is hosted in Germany.
makersocial.online looks like a really cool place though, and @splicer is a great guy!
