The first few pallets of Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen 7040 Series) are on their way out of Taiwan to Batch 1 customer doorsteps! We're looking forward to seeing what you all think of them.

@frameworkcomputer waiting for a 14". I'll keep hoping. 🤞

RealJosephKnapp,

@frameworkcomputer Does Linux and BSD on Framework support firmware updates, BIOS Updates, UEFI Updates and Microcode updates?

RealJosephKnapp,

@frameworkcomputer Does the Framework motherboard also come with Framework secure boot keys to run Linux and BSD in addition to Microsoft secure boot keys to run Windows. Is veracrypt dcs prebootloader signed by your secure boot keys and Microsoft's secure boot keys. What about the LUKS prebootloader? The BSD equivalent?

@RealJosephKnapp @frameworkcomputer you can enroll your own keys as needed

RealJosephKnapp,

@falken @frameworkcomputer Microsoft recently lost control over their keys through a social engineering attack by CCP affiliated hackers, so having as many relevant parties certifying that my firmware and drivers are legit is a must. I would also appreciate if the company behind the firmware for their hardware and the company behind the UEFI had their signatures present too for this reason. Single points of failure in the chain of trust are very dangerous, which is also why mastodon is so great.

@RealJosephKnapp @frameworkcomputer that was Outlook / hosted Exchange signing keys wasn't it? Not seen a report Secure Boot private keys have leaked...

RealJosephKnapp,

@falken @frameworkcomputer Still a reason that multiple certificate authorities attesting that the driver's and firmware are legit is a good idea. If there were a second or third authority responsible for Microsoft exchange server that signed it one key leak would not be the end of the world so to speak, and there would still two more keys needed to forge attestation that the hackers would not have access too.

@RealJosephKnapp @frameworkcomputer monopolies gotta monopolize

RealJosephKnapp,

@falken @frameworkcomputer but that doesn't mean we shouldn't vote with our wallets for the alternative. Money is speech because it is how we communicate the value of goods and services. Likewise money is consent as well because we are voting with our wallets for what we consider valuable. So let's use our right to free speech to support goods and services that defend our rights rather than restrict them. Let's give our consent to the superior goods and services that respect our freedom rather than cost us our freedom.

RealJosephKnapp,

@frameworkcomputer Do the AMD Motherboards support Intel Wifi cards? What BIOS do framework laptops use? AMIBIOS8, Aptio 5, Aptio 4, Coreboot, Aptio Open Source Edition, Phoenix BIOS? I was also wondering if there was an option to get the complete desktop bios without any of the options removed? I would prefer Aptio V if there was an option. Also, how often do you update the bios to the latest upstream release?

falken,
@falken@qoto.org avatar

@RealJosephKnapp @frameworkcomputer FW have licensed their own BIOS from a 3rd party

RealJosephKnapp,

@falken @frameworkcomputer Which 3rd party? Its not like I can go download AMI Aptio V and configure it myself right? The BIOS is not at all a deal breaker for me because the Framework 16 is the best laptop on the market as well as the best desktop replacement as well. I am still waiting on the Nvidia 4070 for laptops to be an option but again not a deal breaker since the AMD Radeon 7700s is perfectly sufficient for my level of MLG gaming.

RealJosephKnapp,

@falken @frameworkcomputer thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Avendor,

@frameworkcomputer Haven't received my notification for an R5 mainboard. Hopefully soon! 🖖

richardc,

@frameworkcomputer can’t order one yet (unemployed), but according to reviews they look great!

Power usage was off according to some reviewers, however. Any idea why?

@frameworkcomputer I got my shipping email overnight. Going to go buy my SSD this weekend. I intend to toot about the DIY process when it turns up.
