Have you ever been so in your own head that when you start talking about what you've been thinking about, it doesn't make sense to other people, because they haven't been down your mental rabbit hole for hours?

ErictheCerise,
@ErictheCerise@kolektiva.social avatar

@RickiTarr

No.

But I do find myself giving 10-minute preface soliloquies to give context to the one-sentence comment I intended to say.

The need to tell the story is strong.

@dfrancis We are real

Nah. That's just a story they tell us.

@cavyherd @dfrancis They aren't real

@RickiTarr I had a friend who I saw a couple times a year. Whenever I saw him, he'd pick up the conversation we were having last time around as though no time had passed. Except he didn't pick it up from where we stopped, he picked it up from where he'd gotten to in his own head in the intervening months. Which always left me pretty confused as I was both trying to remember what we'd been talking about and trying to guess where he'd gone since we were talking ...

@RickiTarr
The secret is to not start talking... until asked a question and then keep the answer to yes, no, or I don´t know. 😂

Nickiquote,
@Nickiquote@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr I constantly say things out loud, often despairingly, then panic and check that no one was in range to hear me.

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@Nickiquote And then you try to modulate but you're too loud and everyone is staring at you lol

MaJ1,

@RickiTarr Morning Ricki - ah maybe that’s why I get blank stares whenever I start talking 😆

I got the nickname robot, but I think it's related to something else 😂

@RickiTarr I have a bad habit of resuming conversations after pauses long enough for other people to forget what was being discussed.

@RickiTarr every day. It amuses me greatly. 😊

TheJen,

@RickiTarr Daily. Fortunately, when I finally blurt something out completely out of context, the hubs knows immediately what I'm talking about because we share a brain.

The phrase "get out of my head" is said frequently. Haha. It's weird, but convenient. Heh.

DemocracySpot,
@DemocracySpot@mstdn.social avatar

@TheJen

My friend/flatmate Zena and I were eerily attuned to each other. She'd say, "Get out my brain before I charge you rent!"

@RickiTarr Oh yeah...my husband is used to it and can surprisingly get on track with me.

argonaut,

@RickiTarr the nice thing is my wife does this too. The not-so-nice thing is she does it every single time she talks to me.

dabertime,
@dabertime@mstdn.social avatar

@RickiTarr Is that like someone asking you a question and it seems like you didn't hear them because you don't answer..

until days later after thinking through all of the details and scenarios, you suddenly blurt out your answer, which is out there on its own now without context..

and now they don't understand what you are talking about since life moved on without you since they asked? 🤔
Maybe.

RickiTarr,
@RickiTarr@beige.party avatar

@dabertime Kinda! My hubs totally does this and I'll be like Hon?! And He'll be like, I heard you, I'm just thinking it out LOL

If you've ever seen Pinky and the Brain, and every episode Brain says something like, Pinky are you thinking what I'm thinking, and Pinky always has something that sounds completely non-sequitor, but is actually related in an extremely roundabout way.

TheJen,
@TheJen@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr @dabertime

THAT! Haha!

grumpasaurus,

@RickiTarr no but sometimes I visibly cringe and the wife notices

I feel like I have been in a rabbit hole my whole life and I don't make sense to people all the time. Around age 40 I learned how to let go and communicate with other people though so there's that.

EmptySet,
@EmptySet@dobbs.town avatar

@RickiTarr When with people, perhaps eighty percent of my processing power is spent preventing this and ninety percent of my time spent guiding them down the rabbit-hole so that my one- or two-sentence idea will make sense.

Interestingly[?] enough, I've been fairly good at understanding drunk or high or schizophrenic people speaking their own idiolects….

@RickiTarr
I often have trouble putting enough information into explaining things. Sometimes people will just dismiss what I said and come back around to my conclusion 20 minutes later. That’s one reason I just wait. They’ll get there.

The other day though, I seriously just started spitting out words that didn’t mean anything in particular together, they just felt right. I stopped and reset. I’m hoping that’ll be a one time thing because it was seriously weird.

atomicbirdseed,

@RickiTarr I became wise enough to realise when I'm in a position to either sound completely insane, or like an a-hole. I learned to give an abridged version of my thought train before blurting out something of typically inconsequential import. Verbalising it brings the added benefit of hearing it, which is another fantastic device to discover one's own moments of idiocy before making a fool of oneself.
