Seriously heard someone saying they don't listen to many black artists, because they aren't really into rap. Bitch please, feel free to share songs from Black artists from any genre. Here is one of my favorites, if you like this song please check out her other work:

So far, I see the moon and stars. There are some wispy clouds out there to remind me that taking pictures of the sky here is a full contact sport.

I’m getting tired and there are too many lights in my neighborhood. Here’s Milli pretending to be the aurora (lit by lamp red LED indicators).

Maybe tomorrow…

I figured out a trick for the tomato seeds:

The planting instructions on the packet said to cover with 1/4” soil, which I usually ignore for pods with variable success. Turns out you can rip a small section of the pod media off of a corner to create a cover for the seeds. Did it with something else earlier, so I’m two for two on improved sprouting. Woot!

Okay, this might sound weird, but this is what I'm thinking of today. I'm assuming most of you know the idiom, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." I know it's about looking at the horse's teeth to check it's age and health, but in my heart I have an alternate history where it's about The Trojan Horse, which doesn't really even make much sense, but it's still living there rent free.

So, does anyone else do this, make up alternate histories for words or phrases? If you do, I'd love examples!

sollat,
@sollat@masto.ai avatar

@RickiTarr
If you say “dogs and cats” one way, it means fighting, but another way it means weird shit is happening. If you say “cats and dogs”, it’s about rain. This must drive non-native speakers nuts.

Oh man. Yeah, no desire to rewatch Blackfish because it already lives rent free in my head.

I initially read this as “Climate Change Could Virtually Disappear Florida”, which made more sense.

I need some new science fiction to read, who has some suggestions? I don't like military sci-fi. For reference, my favorite series is the Expanse, I also enjoyed Scalzi's Collapsing Empire, I love Robert Charles Wilson's books. I mostly enjoy space operas and unique stories about technology, for example I really liked the recent book Mountain in the Sea about AI and intelligent octopus. Suggestions from the awesome Bookstodon community? @bookstodon

It's strange to me when I see people get upset about people doing good deeds, and posting it online.

"They're just doing it for attention!"

Yeah, so what? I'd much rather see people doing nice things for attention, than the people who do mean pranks or wasting food. A good deed is still good, even if it's done for the wrong reasons.

sollat,
@sollat@masto.ai avatar

@RickiTarr
I assume people who say that kind of thing are really saying that the only reason they ever do anything good is for personal profit or attention. Transference.

Omg. We have cottonwood trees around and they blow bits of cottony seed everywhere for a few weeks. They make these little starts in drifts everywhere. It’s almost like it’s snowing, but you know it’ll be a pain later.

I'm at SFO and a sniffer dog was roaming the gate area checking things out. I asked one of the handlers what the dog was trained to look for and he said, "explosives". He went on to explain that this being California, they didn't care, that one person in three here would trigger the dog. "Drugs aren't going to bring down an airplane, so we don't care about them." It was nice to have a sensible conversation, and the dog was adorable.

Two new tulips. Just one of each so far and not entirely open. It should get up to 70F today, so maybe they’ll look good… before it goes all wet and cloudy for a week.

A dark purple compact round tulip flower just starting to open. Behind it are a lupin and a peony with other planters further back.

sollat,
@sollat@masto.ai avatar

One opened! I love it!

The other one is trying but I don’t know. It’s pretty small (maybe an inch across). It could just be too early. Very beautiful color though.

A slightly looser deep wine colored multi-layer tulip. It looks a bit like a peony in shape.

Okay, a little mystery also for today. After the Toxic Club, my
brother and I got a strawberry limeade at a little drive inn, and drove around this Conservation Area, but then we start seeing this fence with these signs, it's like 8 foot tall with lots of the fence totally blacked out, and these signs placed on them that say:

Saline Valley Ranch, No Hunting, No Trespassing

This fence went for miles, and miles had to be incredibly pricey to put in, it reminded me of the fence they'd have at a minimum security prison, but we didn't see cows, horses, crops, nothing but woods and hills and miles and miles of giant fence.

We try to find information about what it is, but there's basically nothing. My husband looks it up on Google Earth, and finds Little Saline Ranch, and I look it up, and it says permanently closed, and even less information is available about that. Google Earth shows lots of wooded land, a lake, and a few open fields, but we couldn't see any buildings or animals, nothing like that.

So, looking up that I find this article about mysterious happenings in the area:

https://www.cjonline.com/story/news/local/2018/10/31/hunting-ghosts-miller-county-other/9408986007

It mentions several people seeing a Bigfoot type cryptid in the area, so obviously the fence is to keep it in. My other guesses involve a government blacksite, as it isn't too far from and airforce base, or a doomsday cult, what do you all think?
