Welp. The buried lede in this study is that even people who had but supposedly don't have still show cognitive slowing (compared to Novids), and "the data indicate that this impairment does not improve over time"*
*in LC people, less clear for nonLC

Good luck with the plan to just let everyone get this all the time, eh

The authors say, "Together, these results robustly demonstrate pronounced cognitive slowing in people with PCC, which distinguishes them from age-matched healthy individuals who previously had symptomatic COVID-19 but did not manifest PCC. This might be an important factor contributing to some of the cognitive impairments reported in patients with PCC."

@inquiline i just read that paper, and the authors specifically mention those two phenomena in both cases and suggest that such conclusions could not be made with the data. See the Discussion section.

@inquiline my husband has never tested positive but since 2020 has had such a cascade of ailments including losing teeth, cognitive slowing, that we know he has covid damage. Finally 4 years later, he is in a program called FND (functional neurological disorders) based on testing and therapies. Strange thing though- NO ONE uttered the words “covid” or “ long covid” to him. But we are grateful that he might be able to get some cognitive abilities back🙏

@inquiline The plan makes sense™️ to the people who've had it repeatedly

@inquiline I may be one of those in a sort of gray zone. I don't have classic symptoms but I do have some peripheral neuropathy that was apparently triggered by COVID. And I do frequently feel that my brain isn't quite as sharp as it was pre-COVID. It's not dramatic, and I can still function and do complex work, but it seems to take more effort now, and I am more likely to forget simple stuff, like what I came into a room for.
