Tesla has texted or called me at least 10 times in the last month to offer incentives if I lease a new car with them after my Model Y ends at the start of May. They are quite litterally desperate.
If I chose to re-up with them I could get quite a deal. I’ve told their reps multiple times I won’t support Tesla as along as Elon Musk is the CEO of the company. Gotta wonder how long Tesla shareholders will put up with him in charge. https://mastodon.online/@electrek/112201815082910986
I will finally turn in my Tesla Model Y which I leased three years ago on May 5th and I will be happy to do it. I am super upset about losing Dog Mode however and my ability to take my pup safely and freely with me when running errands.
Of all the cars I test drove and looked at none have a proper pet mode except Tesla. It stinks but I simply won’t support Tesla while Musk is CEO and I’m FAR from alone. Going to try and wait for the Ioniq 5 2025 refresh this fall. Ooof.
@gedeonm fwiw, my parents have an Ioniq 5 and it is a truly delightful place to sit. Extremely comfortable seats, soft ride, great airy cabin, really neat trim, sensible shape trunk. Only complaint is from my dad (who is 5’8 and very slim) that the seats aren't quite supportive/bolstered enough for him.
@cloudthethings Yep it was super comfy to drive when I tried it. Hard to get a sense long term during a short test drive but it was voted car of the year back in 2022 so. Thx for the info!!
@JoeWelch They are not closeby and I believe too expensive for my needs. That new model they are working on is intriguing but won’t come for another 1-2 years.
I’m sure the $1800 bill I got from Tesla for excessive wear and tear (small scuff from a shopping cart mishap) would magically dissapear if I re-upped with them for a new Y lease.
@gedeonm I agree with you completely. Unfortunately I can't find an EV that I want right now (I prefer hatchbacks and sedans, and pickings are very slim) so I will probably have to go back to an ICE vehicle for a few years to avoid the mental stress of any Musk association.
@davidh I’m probably going to drive my wife’s 2008 Honda Civic until the Ioniq 5 2025 refresh comes hopefully this fall. It stinks but I won’t get locked into another car for 3 years that I don’t love.
Last full day with the Tesla before I turn it in tomorrow. With no car replacement for the foreseeable future, I’ll be driving Min’s 2005 Honda Civic for the time being. Gonna take some serious getting used to. 😬

@gedeonm Good! When we were shopping for an EV I specifically forbid my husband from even looking at Teslas because of their abhorrent CEO. We are now leasing a fully electric Mercedes and we love it. It feels futuristic
@_elena Once you go EV very few people want to go back. If the charging network problem can be solved and prices continue to come down as they have the choice for the majority of people will be simple. Grats on your new car BTW!
@gedeonm Thanks 🙏 Here in Paris we see so many EVs now. There are additional incentives - like free street parking for the first 6 hours - that are driving lots of people to switch to EVs. And there are charging stations everywhere…
