US is just banning TikTok because they cannot control it, but are cool with the ones they can control.
@protonprivacy I'd say keep #TikTok around for a while to break #Meta's monopoly. Uninstall TikTok by all means, but prioritise doing away with #WhatsApp and #Instagram first to keep the balance.
@protonprivacy There's no safe way to use Facebook or X/Twitter or Instagram or WhatsApp ... where are the articles telling you to delete the apps that lead to an actual insurrection? Or hosted by a company that turned chat conversations over to law enforcement so they could prosecute people who have abortions?
@protonprivacy I know you mention it almost as a footnote, but the heading should have included Facebook and others as well especially where they fall under the US CLOUD Act. We've actually seen real evidence of Facebook abuse being exposed and data being sold to data brokers. I still don't see why TikTok is being singled out separately from Facebook.
Being outside of the US I have more real worries about Facebook than I worry about TikTok.

The same author wrote an article last year on how to evade censorship of Instagram. Would they write the same advice in case the US bans #TikTok ?
@ghazi This article is a result of multiple users asking how to do that, and we also have many users relying on Proton VPN to access TikTok (based on the customer support questions we receive).
If you look through our blog as well as our Mastodon feed, you'll see many articles criticizing Meta's privacy practices too.

You criticize other companies for compromising our privacy, yet you are no better by using Google services to deliver us notifications in your services.
@somatalos@karma It is different because the notifications we send through Google Play services are end-to-end encrypted (between us and the app user), therefore their content cannot be scanned or logged.
