All lives matter. Except the lives of puppies. Or women with ectopic pregnancies. Or protesters. Or immigrants. Or people wearing masks to avoid COVID. Or poll workers. Or journalists. Or people of color expecting equal policing and justice. Or poor people in need of healthcare. Or Capitol officers.
Every election. Every race. Every Democrat. #VoteBlue.
For me the power of the fediverse is exemplified by me being able to follow @potus
I hate Threads, I hate that Biden's team is using it instead of a mastodon instance (they should really run their own and federate, costs would be trivial as far as PR goes)
BUT.
I don't HAVE to make a threads account. I don't HAVE to follow the account on threads. Since it's federated, the choice is not "nothing at all, or use a site I hate". I just get the 1 account I want.
Jay Hartzell, President of the University of Texas at Austin, yesterday broke the single most important compact that academics have with each other and their institutions: do not intentionally hurt students.
The TX governor, for his own political purposes, sent state troopers to campus before a student protest even began. Hartzell both let these outside law enforcement agencies in, and provided cover for the violence they inflicted on dozens of peaceful, unarmed UT students.
President Biden has signed a bill to effectively ban TikTok.
Meanwhile, we've watched Facebook admit to enabling Rohingya genocide, help to manipulate the 2016 election, sell our private data, cause massive PTSD to its own employees, and currently let Israeli military spy on Palestinians—face zero meaningful accountability whatsoever—but it's a good thing we've banned TikTok, because, you know, for safety.
@QasimRashid and the people who think the tik tok ban is good are so far gone with US propaganda it’s terrifying. Currently they’ve banned multiple forms of speech because people are protesting GENOCIDE. Idk how people can’t see this as extremely bad.
@GovTrack it’s like politicians are liars and hypocrites every step of the way. The tik tok ban is another free speech ban against those protesting genocide. People who are ok with that are likely genocidal maniacs.
It should outrage everyone that in response to Israel killing 14 children, the White House condemned the interfaith student orgs protesting such war crimes for antisemitism committed by unaffiliated bigots—while funding the actual war crimes being protested with another $26B.😳
@jensorensen million dead Americans. A million likely to die from Israel’s starvation of Gaza. It’s like the normalization of millions dying is on purpose or something.
This is really important: Too many Americans don't know about Trump's blatant authoritarian threats (like his vow to be a dictator "on day one" if he returns to power). We've got some work to do to raise awareness on what a second Trump presidency would mean for our country and communities. Our tools make it easy for you to take action locally: https://act.indivisible.org/lte/majority-over-maga-LTE?source=mastodon&medium=directpost
@indivisibleteam must be all that American individualism and alienation coming back to bite America in the ass. Capitalism will not stop until it’s an authoritarian regime.
Some lady made up an entire fan fiction story about me that has zero basis in reality, she made every single thing about her story up, making up conversations and people that don’t exist. It’s delusion and I hope she gets the help she needs because making up fantasies like this about a person u don’t know is not normal. It’s scary honestly.
@taylorlorenz I followed you on mastodon. This is where I saw the information and where I’ve criticized you. No idea what you’re on about but I sense you’re pointing a finger.
#IsraelHamasWar / The number of fatalities in Gaza is likely three times higher than the official figure (Dr. Martin Wein)
Based on global models, a reasonable estimate is that the true death toll in #Gaza already exceeds the official figure by at least 3 times, so likely over 90,000. The long-term effects of malnutrition, disease, trauma and devastation will drive the excess mortality much higher in the coming months.
Dr. Wein is suggesting that the official tally only counts those directly killed in the attacks, not the much larger excess mortality from secondary causes related to the disaster. This underestimate serves Israeli and Western interests by making the humanitarian catastrophe and crimes committed in Gaza appear smaller.
#Hamas has an interest in keeping official casualty figures in Gaza relatively low for political reasons, and has undercounted victims since the start of the war.
According to Dr. Wein, Hamas is manipulating the death toll numbers in three key ways:
Not counting Gazans killed or captured inside Israel during the October 7 attack
Categorizing many dead buried in rubble as "missing" rather than deceased
Undercounting wounded who died of infections, as well as starvation deaths
Dr. Martin “Moussa” Wein has taught history at Tel Aviv University and New York University. He specializes in Jaffa’s history, Czech-Israeli relations and inter-religious studies.
@taylorlorenz did platforming the evil libsoftiktok do anything for your career or help in anyway or move the needle toward humanity at all? No? No shit.
