I’ve been in this business, writing software professionally, since I started my first software business at 16 in high school an an Apple ][. That’s 45 fucking years. It would never occur to me to steal other people’s code, let alone their likenesses, voices, or art.

Just eject these thieving “AI” companies into the sun. These people, and the VCs that fund them, are a cancer on the software industry.

@cykonot @Dhmspector Information laundering is the money laundering of this century.

So it's really true. Data is the oil of the 21st century. Toxic to any sociology / ecology in the long run.

@Dhmspector Wasn't the strike about this? I thought they got an agreement to get royalties. Probably turn out like how Spotify 'pay' artists. (I am not reading that)

Dhmspector,
@Dhmspector@mastodon.social avatar

@nf3xn only applies to members of the writer’s guild. SAGAFTRA has a different deal. IIRC there was no agreement for anything these companies claim they are doing for “research” — which btw is what OpenAI and most of these AI companies claim about their entire ingestion of the scrapable public Internet as well as all of millions of copyrighted works they’ve trained their models on.

@Dhmspector bro the part where Lovo claims the voice actors they sample from can get a cut from the AI clone bot wtf direct hiring would help them loads more LMAO A CUT??

Dhmspector,
@Dhmspector@mastodon.social avatar

@Hika right? Of course this is more entitled techbro BS. You or I did this at even the smallest scale and we’d get a “friendly” visit from the FBI.

@Dhmspector
It's quite late to implement it now. But a general ban on AI in public spaces wouldn't be a bad idea. Just against misleading the public.
It is creepy that even public broadcasters in the Netherlands are now experimenting with news topics presented by fake AI newsreaders.

glitzersachen,

@bmk @Dhmspector

Late? It's never too late for the .

(Only the amount of razing that needs to be done becomes larger later, but on the other side it's then much easier because there are less shades of grey and more proof who the perps are).

@Dhmspector Underhanded way of obtaining voice samples, too... Insanity.

Dhmspector,
@Dhmspector@mastodon.social avatar

@ai6yr yup …and these very same people/companies demand copyright, trademark, and patent protection for the new derivative works they create with the intellectual property they steal from others.
