@atomicpoet Yeah, there was a bug where hashtags didn’t get indexed properly if it first appeared through federated posts, and it resulted in weird behavior when searching for affected hashtags. Its since been fixed, and it’s an easy fix to rebuild the hashtag search index.
@atomicpoet i do not have any examples, because when it was discovered that it would happen randomly admins began just rebuilding the hashtag indexes regularly to make sure we catch any missing hashtags. We discovered it months ago when the John Mastodon meme came into being.
@atomicpoet On my own instance that's running glitch does not seem to have the same problem. Also https://mstdn.social/ that's running official 4.1.2 is fine.
@atomicpoet I'm aware that Mastodon servers can, via the admin panel, manually block search results, trends, and iirc even the usage of any hashtag that the server has ever seen.
It'd be quite sus but not off brand for Eugen to do that.

There's one box on the website now that mentions the rest of the Fediverse. One. Everything else is rather misleading, including "Follow anyone across any Mastodon server from a single account," ignoring the whole, it's way more than just Mastodon thing.
A lot of smaller server admins are reporting that he and the rest of the team have been unresponsive about adding their servers to the list.
He doesn't talk about or share anything that isn't built specifically for Mastodon.
It would be extraordinarily petty and somewhat unexpected but it's well within the realm of possibility.
@BlakeL Eugen knows what it's like to have Mastodon links blocked on Twitter. And he knows that a win for other Fediverse software is a win for Mastodon.
@atomicpoet I've noticed searches don't quite work right when you aren't signed in. For instance, you have to have an account at Universeodon to use its superpowered search.
