@cory Great post(s). I have a similar setup with Plex(amp). I've been using muspy.com to track new album releases for the bands I follow, but "Rate Your Music" also looks interesting.

@darekkay thank you! Plexamp is really great — I just wish their webhook output provided a bit more detail specific to the played track.

Muspy looks great! I'd never seen it before. I use MusicHarbor on iOS/Mac as well. I primarily enjoy the user created lists on RYM — e.g. there's one user who does annual death metal album roundups and I feel like I'm always missing something even though I follow the bands myself.

@cory where are you purchasing music? As I'd like to buy instead of stream but for a lot of the artists I like it's getting a CD, ripping it, and throwing it away which feels terrible for the environment. Or Amazon!

@tinheadned @cory The throwing away part is very much optional 😛

I mean, I know CDs take up space, it's just wild to me to think of buying a CD to use once and immediately dispose of

@diazona @tinheadned 😅 I sold a bunch to Amoeba when I needed the money back in the day and kept the digital files.

@tinheadned I've had a collection for so long that a lot of it was originally built from CDs — I've held on to my absolute favorite artists' CDs like Tom Waits and NoMeansNo but I resold a bunch to Amoeba in Hollywood back in the day.

A lot of the newer releases I pick up on Bandcamp since there's pretty wide adoption among punk/emo/metal labels and 7digital.com is surprisingly decent. I try to avoid Apple/Amazon wherever I can.

@cory I had not heard of 7digital, they do look good, ta!

@cory apropos of nothing, I am now poorer

@tinheadned haha yeah that's usually how it goes with me too.

@cory @skinnylatte Plexamp is pretty amazing. While I still use some streaming services, 95% of my listening is with plexamp and my own music. The sonic analysis features are great.

@ezwal @skinnylatte it’s super impressive — it’ll match manually added similar artists and make interesting connections in top of that. Their radio works well too given that it’s bounded by your own curation.
