What do they expect in a country with inadequate health options for many? This is not the first time I've read that people in the US do something criminal to get into prison just to get proper medical treatment they otherwise cannot afford. Take a look at the statistics how many US prisoners get their teeth fixed as soon as they are behind bars...
California has like 40M people. That’s ten cents per person, spread over 6 years. It’s literally nothing. A road costs more to bankroll (I tried looking up a specific figure but they’re all over the place).
I think it’s more critical of how the politicians have decided to spend tax payer money, and how there haven’t been any guardrails put in place to prevent male prisoners from abusing this program and transferring to female prisons to sexually assault them.
Because what sexual abuser wouldn't sign up for years of hormone therapy and invasive surgeries so that they could go and assault women in another prison. /s
