: "The conviction of Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev is sending ripple effects through the blockchain industry, which is bracing for a long-foreseen chilling effect.

This is likely to deter devs from building privacy and security enhancing digital tools, said Aaron Mackey, senior staff attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a non-profit digital rights group based in San Francisco.

“Holding a developer of beneficial tools responsible for the wrongdoing of others is short-sighted and harms everyone’s privacy online,” Mackey told DL News."

I feel like it would be very consistent if the next thing after and The and and , turned out to be .

I don't know if it will actually attract and support tons of scams and media bros and think pieces, but if it did it would feel right somehow.

In the recently resurfaced debate about #solarpunk (or lunarpunk) aspects of #web3 and #blockchain I'm intrigued by one aspect:

Why do we accept being given a solution without outlining the problem in the first place?

Why don't we listen to #DAO pitches instead of asking ourselves how we want to run our communities, how do we want to make decisions, vote, discuss things?

Just stating the problem first would make it very clear that there are multiple technical solutions, not just the Web3.

I wish the sync was faster, but it is what it is eh…

I just got a notification from @ordinarygamers from my discord server I setup (it’s kind of a mess ngl) and I normally watch his content on Odysee, just wish it was faster although I believe it takes time as per API requests. Takes time to upload to the LBRY network I believe… @lemmy

Happy Everybody!

Today is the day when the database that requires the electricity of a small country to stay online, rewards those operating it by cutting their pay in half, which of course means that everything becomes more valuable!

Gah, how I am having to recycle all my old "NFTs don't do that, though" arguments, just on the Bitcoin blockchain now?

THEY AREN'T ANY MORE USEFUL ON THIS BLOCKCHAIN THEN THEY WERE ON THE OTHER ONES.

: "When I boil it down, I find my feelings about AI are actually pretty similar to my feelings about blockchains: they do a poor job of much of what people try to do with them, they can't do the things their creators claim they one day might, and many of the things they are well suited to do may not be altogether that beneficial. And while I do think that AI tools are more broadly useful than blockchains, they also come with similarly monstrous costs." https://www.citationneeded.news/ai-isnt-useless/

I have made 2 whole phone calls today. Where’s my medal.

Crypto rubbernecking opportunities are way down these days*, but here’s a few things I’ve saved:

Amy and David’s sure-fire* analyst predictions on crypto for 2024! (* within acceptable margins of error)” — plus a scorecard on last year’s predictions for 2023.

David Gerard versus LLMs: “deeply disappointed, i asked gemini to write something in my style and it seemed to channel The Register wahey blokey british style with jellied eels

“At first the plan was for the DAO to vote on whether or not to hire a writer & how much to pay them. But although the DAO was fine for making so-called smart contracts, it didn’t have a mechanism for signing regular old-fashioned dumb contracts, or for paying anybody in what crypto people derisively call ‘fiat currency,’ but which you and I call ‘money.’ […] In the end I was offered a contract from Mysterious Entity. I submitted my invoices to and was paid, in dollars, by Mysterious Entity, Inc. The Piper DAO was not a party to the contract.”

bro they stole your entire game” — latest roundup from Jauwn, the Youtuber on a neverending quest to find and review an NFT game that’s actually good.

(*To be clear, crypto scams are still chugging right along. Web 3 Is Going Just Great has a steady influx of new posts! They’re just all variations on the same 3 or 4 themes. Even Amy and David’s blogging has occasionally thrown in an AI-scams roundup to fill space.)
