Robie reset kompa, zamiast Windowsa widze ekran z artefaktami - juz myslalem, ze karta graficzna sie spalila... na szczescie za 3 razem system wstal, ale... 😬

#CitiesSkylines2 can be a bit janky and it definitely needs more optimisation, but overall I've enjoyed what I've played so far.

I think I figured out how to satisfy low density residential demand in the game. It basically operates on the concept of Induced Demand. Just like adding a lane to a highway incentivizes people to use the highway more, leading to the same congestion problems. If you constantly zone low density residential in an attempt to "chase the demand bar," what you're doing is increasing the supply of houses. Meaning, driving down the COST of housing. Meaning more citizens can afford a house, meaning they buy up that supply, so they demand more... it's a feedback loop, like acquiescing to a child who only ever wants to eat chocolate.

So, counterintuitively, you need to IGNORE their demand. By keeping the supply constant, and with demand increasing, the cost of the housing goes up. This prices out some of your citizens, and so they will begin demanding lower-cost options. Enter, medium density housing. You start with row housing, then medium density, then mixed-use. This doesn't happen fast, let alone instantly, so you kind of have to plan this strategy from the founding of your city. At one point I had a 15k pop with almost exclusive demand for medium density housing.

As your citizens get more educated through college and university levels, they'll be able to afford those suburbs again, and the demand will return. But they'll also be young enough that living "in the big city" will be desirable and they'll start demanding high density apartments close to shops and offices. Beware the Low Rent zoning type! Despite being high density, if your citizens are too well educated and make too much money, they'll abandon these buildings the moment they can afford nicer places. But I guess they're a good stopgap measure between medium density and regular high density.

So Induced Demand is a double edged sword: you want to avoid inducing demand for low density suburbs, and purposely induce demand for higher densities.

One thing that I appreciate about #CitiesSkylines2 is that they will pay anyone to make content about it with few restrictions.

For example, Spiffing Brit absolutely tore the game to shreds in a long Twitter thread about it. He condemned the loss of features, poor controls, breaking bugs, and especially the absurd hardware requirements. He called it a stain on the beloved franchise pushed out before it was ready by people who don't understand what made it great. He even explicitly says not to buy it (until they fix it at least).

Yet #ParadoxInteractive didn't muzzle him with rules preventing that as a condition of getting a pre-release copy. I don't think he's in the slightest jeopardy of having future games published by #Paradox not going to him first. It's refreshing to see that in the video games industry.

New Fire Station. These upgrades from the first service buildings to the full service buildings are EXPENSIVE, but they basically cover your whole city (at least at the size I'm at currently), instead of like a third of it.

#CitiesSkylines2

I’ve been really enjoying Cities Skylines 2, but the more I play it the more I realize how buggy it is.

So far nothing game breaking has come up for me, but it’s noticeably buggy. I’m not very picky so I just shrug and keep playing. I’m fairly confident the devs will fix it up eventually, but if you’re expecting a bug free game give it some time before you pick it up.

I am disappointed but not surprised that #CitiesSkylines2 has the same disappointing "if there's crime, just plop down a police station" approach to the criminal justice system. Sure, they added the ability to limit police stations to specific districts and now prisons can be used for prison labor to boost manufacturing, but those are the opposite of what I want games to be doing. I want at least some of these games to be showing off alternatives to the current model, or at the very least spewing less #copaganda.

Honestly though, the most disappointing of the bunch is still 1-1-2 Operator. It's a game where you are a dispatcher for emergency services and you get to manage squads of police, fire, and medical. That includes hiring staff, buying equipment, and some level of influence over how they respond. You legitimately have incentives in gameplay to equip most of your cops with tasers instead of guns and leave your SWAT team at the station when a police horse could address the issue just as well to save money.

Alas, the devs sided with All Lives Matter (at least partially in response to parts of their player base having people vocally demanding it). So instead of doing the incredibly natural outgrowth of what their system and mechanics already did by creating separate traffic enforcement, mental health services, and detective agencies to show how a city could work with a police force 1/10th the size, they went another way. The next expansions included civil unrest (adding terrorism and riot control) then a zombie apocalypse. [full disclosure: they did push back to do some good covid stuff]

It's particularly depressing because the big gimmick of 1-1-2 Operator over its predecessor is that it used data from Open Street Maps so you can play in over 10,000 real world cities, some of which with 3D mapping. They had the opportunity to let people try to defund police in their home town in a video game but went in a different direction for sales.

I really want the game that could have been. #VideoGames can be a way to explore the world in a way that lets us imagine better alternatives to the status quo. Reinforcing that crime just naturally appears and that it can be thwarted with greater force traps us in a shitty mindset.

After seeing what Paradox has done with #CitiesSkylines2 I really would like to see how a successor to #Minecraft would look like, if Mojang would still have interest in developing the game and would took the same approach.

Would probably be the best game ever. But we'll never know.

Honestly, I pirated #CitiesSkylines2 and I feel a little ripped off.

It's just mostly just #CitiesSkylines with more realistic cars and human shaders.

There are a few QoL improvements that probably make it worth a buy; like being able to buy smaller squares of land, or how water pipes run under streets now.

Cities Skylines 2 lackluster launch can be mostly attributed to the growing pains of a small studio.

It was probably never possible for a small studio like Colossal Order to deliver a fully functional successor from scratch when they were adding features for 10 years CS1 in parallel.

The only way it would've worked was if they could have used the same code in CS2. But clearly, they weren't able to, as it's missing most of the DLCs they built for CS1.
