Did you use a colander to see or take pics of the eclipse? I know we laugh at it, but I seriously enjoy seeing others’ colander pics. In such a divided time, at least we all have colanders in common! Anyone remember Hands Across America? This is like that, but with colanders 🤣 Please post your pics and use the hashtag (and maybe ?). Here’s mine, from :

Beautiful sharp crescents!

Yay - work brought me to a place one might see something interesting on eclipse day. Then the weather got clear enough. Then the work thing had a large enough gap to do the seeing.

So I didn’t plan for it but I had a camera and a decently long lens and an unanticipated opportunity and got a couple of half decent shots I will keep a long time.

I think this is my favorite shot from today, still need to do a lot of processing and playing around things. Super happy with how skies treated us.

Impossible to capture with a basic phone's camera, but here is my blurry photo of totality anyways. :)

@benjaminedwardwebb Nice, that's better than what I was able to get. :)

Higher speed shot of the eclipse at totality today. The corona is less pronounced, but you can see more fine detail in the plasma of the prominences.

Solar eclipse at totality this afternoon in Millinocket.

You can see the corona surrounding the darkened disc of the sun, with filament like structures radiating out from the sun in various lengths. On the bottom left you can see a bit of red from the prominences sticking out past the moon's shadow.

My eclipse pictures are on my photo blog: https://www.urbandinosaurs.org (though I do have to delete the Twitter link…).
For those who don't want to go there, here’s a picture of totality (note the solar prominences), and another of a post-totality crescent sun—it's smiling for the great show it gave us.

A crescent sun, looking like a smile.

Got really lucky today and the clouds opened at just the right time

The real winner of the eclipse lottery is my in-laws who drove to Kingston on a whim and ended up at an "eclipse brunch" with bottomless mimosas

Solar eclipse watchers from Vermont and Arkansas topped the list of people searching Google about their eyes hurting after watching the April 8, 2024 eclipse. Most searches came from states directly in the path of the total eclipse.

My favorite image from ?

This visualization of the Saros 139 cycle to which the eclipse belongs showing similar eclipses from 1501 to 2763. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_Saros_139

@bkeegan @vmstan I just spent the last hour learning about the Saros series. Thanks! 😁

Just got back from the path of totality. I initially wasn’t worried about photographing the eclipse, despite how beautiful it was, because I figured the internet would have me covered. Sadly, it seems pictures can’t do the event justice. It was breathtaking
