Just wasted two hours of my life discovering that you cannot buy seat reservations using the eurail tool for Spain nor can you use your eurail pass and buy them through the Spanish train service without paying for a whole ticket vs just the seat reservation. Has worked seamlessly in every bloody country other than Spain. Lots of very cranky people on the travel forums #Eurail#AdventuresOfCass2024
The handling of non-trivial station names in the #Interrail / #Eurail app is so broken. You have to enter them exactly as they happen to be stored in the database to get a match. And it is fairly arbitrary how non-letters or non-ASCII characters are stored. For instance:
St Pölten: St.Poelten (period, no space, ö→oe)
Pännainen: Pannainen (ä→a)
Horn NÖ: Horn Noe (NÖ→Noe, as if it was a word)
If you missed this earlier in the year, here's my article about the epic rail journey I took across Europe this year - 20 trains, 8 countries, 12 cities!
Europe train travel: I visited eight destinations without a single flight, and loved it
Question to the travelling wise: if I wanted to book a train trip across Europe, what's the best website to play around on to look at my options?
I'm hoping to take a trip in the spring... #EURail#HelpNeeded#AdviceWelcome
I feel like being much smaller countries, plus the atrocities of the two world wars playing out in Europe (destroying major infrastructure), "help(ed)" in providing a ground framework for rail as it is in Europe.
