So... I left Evernote months ago when they hiked their pro plan subscription (like 163% !) It was bloated, and their free plan was crippled; that + the company had been struggling for years to find a CEO who could bring some kind of vision back to the app. It all flopped and they were sold to Bending Spoons.

Over the ensuing months, I was fortunate to find a replacement! An Open Source, fully encrypted, Evernote killer. And what a note taking app it has become.

A major release (v3.0) was launched officially today. 8 months of non-stop development and testing by a two-man Dev team has really brought this app center stage. These guys are hands-on with listening to user feedback on their NN Discord server; when they find time to sleep beats me (the plight of the developer).
Read about this latest journey AND all of the great new features of v3.0 that are note-taking game changers, on their blog post:

https://blog.notesnook.com/introducing-notesnook-v3/

You're going to hear more about Notesnook in the weeks and months to come and it won't be coming from me. It will be from a growing userbase that can't help but share the awesomeness that Notesnook brings to notetaking.

Ok, maybe it is now time to leave as they are suddenly demanding I stop syncing across too many devices and writing too many notes. Alternatively, I need to pay them even more money than I already do.
The best alternative seems to be but I am wondering how to sync my Android device and Mac notebooks to Google Drive. Is there an easy way to do that? Last time around I tried Syncthing, but it was not a good solution. Obsidian sync is a bit pricey.

Gerne RT, danke!

Hivemind: i need your help!

What are people using nowadays as an alternative to #Evernote (on Windows) ?

Preferably an alternative in which I can import existing notes.

@jrf_nl I imported my existing Evernote notes to Notesnook last year. Been happy with my move.

I just do not get it. You can make multiple free accounts, but if you install the mail app you can literally only add one free account to it. They support IMAP but you have to install this dumb “bridge” app on your desktop to facilitate it. Too much of a hassle to use this. Single account in the app is legit -level bullshit.

The Dev for the Evernote REPLACEMENT I'm using, provides a concise and informative interview over at Ness Labs.

"Abdullah Atta is the founder of Notesnook, an open source and end-to-end encrypted note-taking app with cross-device syncing.

Abdullah is obsessed with privacy, promising no spying and no tracking, and has designed many features to ensure your information is only accessible to who you want it to."

Just installed #Joplin, which I'm looking to use as my #Evernote replacement. (Since I don't like the current look of Evernote as a company.) https://joplinapp.org

So far, it looks sweet - full-featured but pretty easy to use, nicely open, good docs, with an official cloud sync that doesn't cost too much and end-to-end encryption.

Just starting out with it, but this may also replace a lot of Google Docs for me…

Gratuitement.

Notesnook looks very promising: https://notesnook.com/

  • open source clients, server, clipper, etc.
  • strong encryption
  • self-hosted sync servers are on the to-do list!
  • their sync server is about half the yearly cost of Obsidian.md's

Doesn't do nested notebooks or folders yet, which is sort of necessary for me, but they're on the to-do list. I'm also partial to Markdown format, which is a supported export format.

I'm old enough to remember when Evernote was the hottest note app out there, free on several devices at a time, and not restricted to 50 notes.

I'm glad I'm on Obsidian now, where my notes live on my own hard drive or the cloud storage of my own choice.

#Obsidian vs #Evernote no contest

Kennt da jemand was?

Wow just hit me with a huge price hike from 4000 yen a year —-> 6900 yen a year. I hate it when they suddenly do this without any warning at all. I wonder whether I can export all my notes so I don’t lose them all…

I am sorry to hear that. I moved to @joplinapp a while ago and I have been very happy. is open source, robust, you can put data on your own cloud storage, and the Web clipper is much, much better than Evernote.

I used extensively for a decade. But all of this squeezing has turned me off completely. Just made me feel gross. I am just moving two important notebooks before I shut Evernote down completely.

ChaplinTokyo,
@ChaplinTokyo@vivaldi.net avatar

Well, absolutely no response from support!

Since I’ve got 10 years worth of notes (almost 3000 notes!), I decided to sign up for their discounted Personal plan so I can export the notes in .xml format which I can then import into @joplinapp. With so many notes I expect Joplin might have trouble syncing so I guess a big clean out of old notes is in order!
