I’m seriously considering buying a bunch of Bluetooth earphones and gifting them to anyone I see blaring a video or game or music in a quiet public place from their phone.

What do you think, shall we crowdfund it for the sanity of us all?

Kinda wishing my mini-split heat pump had an explicit turbo button, so I wouldn't have to do this silly “oh yes I'd love it to be ~5-10 degrees warmer than <actual intent>" thing to trick it into the less efficient go-faster mode for a while.

I.e., I'd love a “get to this set temp ASAP, /then/ worry about /keeping it there/ efficiently” mode.

(Secondarily, I need to look into IoT’ifying it so I can make it read a thermostat at 'ground level' 😩 stratification is annoying.)

And while I'm whining, I have to point out the sole issue I have with my sleek, completely black as a very black thing Macbook, is that I can't see the charging slot and have to find it by feel.

So I have now defaced its cover's black purity with two tiny silver Sharpie marks to help me find the damn thing.

The worst part about a power cut is when it comes back on & you have to turn on the 3 computers & 1 Synology in your house, try to remember which processes they were running when the power went out, delete all the temp files, & restart them! Oh, then there's all the Hue lights that WERE SET to "return to default state" when power goes back on, but didn't & all come blaring back at 100% at 10:40pm! And the blinds that are all zigbee & didn't get the "close at dusk" signal!🤬

I get very annoyed with my rice strainer because the holes are too large and let long grain rice through.

Sure, it's fine for short grain, but I can't have that with my chilli can I?!

Why can’t we have a 32” 5K monitor?

I loved my 27” 5K iMac Pro, but eventually wanted everything a bit larger for my aging eyes.

4K HiDPI at 27” seems alright for a secondary monitor, but I wish my primary monitor had the same 1440p HiDPI resolution, just at 32”.

It seems ridiculous the only options for 5K are 27” displays, and for anything larger you can only choose from 4K (my eyes!) or you jump straight to 6K/8K (my bank!).

After more than 2 decades my primary care physician retired, 2.5 years ago, it took me several months to find a suitable replacement, who after 6 months decided to stop seeing patients and focus on clinical research full time. Another search commenced - found a doctor and she's been great for the past year. Yesterday in the mail I received a notice that she's moving out of state.

This is the United States. It is hard to find a doctor that is 1) not in bed with the pharmaceutical companies, 2) moving me through a quick fire assembly line, and 3) actually considers alternate health solutions, ie DO instead of MD. The search begins again....

@singapore if we’re paying 5c for plastic bags, can they at least be biodegradable?

And how does the government think we should dispose of our trash? Buying biodegradable trash bags? Or using a pail then dumping them down the chute?

Massy hysteria - gridlock as stretch of M25 closes for weekend

“Tahir Aziz of Woking borough council said: “We’ve never experienced something like this before. It will have a significant impact in this area. It will cause huge disruption and delays, and a lot of traffic jams.””

It pains me to use the term ‘’ but… Plenty of notice, lots of time to plan and if you are concerned about emergency vehicles stay off the roads - or walk!

More as my new hybrid heat pump hot water heater failed city inspection. Apparently the plumbers will have to redo the condensate drainage, as the plan of "empty the bucket" isn't going to cut it, it must go into a sewer drain or be piped outside.

Anyone know of any handy online tools or simple checklists to keep a residential move in the USA nice and organized? Like tracking what utilities I've called to transfer.

The selling of our house has been a crazy ride and now it finally looks like it's moving forward which means closing day and moving day are fast approaching. I now feel like I'm behind in everything I need to get done and there just isn't room in my brain to keep track of everything.

Ya know what the Apple Pencil needs? A Pencil Holder, like the Wacom Tablets used to have for their stylii, that both holds and charges the Pencil.

Using the Lightning port on the tablet leaves the Pencil sticking out like a ... thing sticking out designed to break, and using the cable charger adaptor stops the pencil from working. That means breaking your workflow to charge the bloody thing.

"Workflow" 🤣🤣 Hark at me!

I love fountain pens. They write better, feel better to use, give more pleasure.

But they also randomly get mold sometimes, especially when one foolishly buys a half-used bottle of ink and uses it without checking. Well, guess I'm pouring out this ink and spending the rest of the night cleaning the pen.

Moral: only buy new ink bottles.

I am about to be much less well informed.

The Washington Post doubled my weekly fee. $96/yr
The Atlantic went to $79/yr. I asked for any consideration possible and they dropped it to $49.99/digital.
The New Yorker is a firm $99/yr digital.

I understand Capitalism.

I’ve read and happily subscribed to these publications for years. Years.

Now it’s a choice between feeding my brain and life.

I despise those options.
