wetlands still under threat as powers of conservation authorities keep getting weaker. Another great investigative article by @thenarwhal .
"Ontario weakens watershed protections (again) as natural resources minister gets new powers
New rules for conservation authorities reduce buffer zones between development and and empower Doug Ford’s cabinet to issue permits without their say..
Ontario’s minister of natural resources will soon have the power to overrule — or bypass — oversight bodies to greenlight development..."

Sign the petition to keep the Science at its current location.

“In short, they are expecting that 50% more people will visit a facility that is 45% of the size of the current Science Centre, with a significantly reduced staff managing it all.”
It will cost taxpayer $300-$400 million more.
And can you imagine 30 school busses with hundreds of navigating heavy downtown traffic every single day?

(My personal thoughts: Yes, the current building needs extensive repair. Perhaps a solution would be to rebuild part of the building, but integrate important architectural features from the original? Put all the parking underground, and that leaves space to build both a community centre and housing on the rest of the property).

Even though the Staples deal was revealed to Ontarians just a few days ago, some stores are already renovated.
"This is what the ServiceOntario outlet looks like inside an Staples. It’s located in between a display of printers and office chairs, and located at the back of the store meaning you have to pass all the merchandise. Taxpayers funded this."

A Paris, cattle farmer is concerned about coexisting with a proposed 400-unit subdivision. The farmland, bordered on three sides by the Grand River, has been a family farm since 1852.

More farmland gone: this farmer will likely be forced to sell - especially once the new homeowners start complaining about "the bad smell"

More details are being uncovered about the land development problem.

"Over 11 days last fall, lawyers from Dentons law firm emailed the Ontario housing minister's most senior political staffer to request that protected land owned by three separate developers northeast of Toronto be opened up for development.

Dentons sent letters on behalf of Flato Developments, Orca Equity, and Wyview Group, which owned Greenbelt land in Markham, Ont., and Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ont.

... specific sites to build new housing on the 810,000-hectare area of farmland, forest and wetland that surrounds the Greater Toronto Area, created to protect ecologically-sensitive land from disappearing to urban sprawl...."

September 11 is the last day to join the Ontario Liberal Party to vote in the Ontario Liberal Leadership Election and decide who will lead them against Ford provincially. (ontarioliberal.ca)

I’m going to be honest, Bonnie Crombie throwing her hat into the ring convinced me to sign up to vote against her. Ontario does not need a Blue Liberal NIMBY today.

Crombie will likely be an improvement over Ford, but I don’t think will be enough to repair the damage done after 8 years of . Should the OLP win and not say ONDP, or … FSM forbid - Ford more years.

Premier gave away $8.3 BILLION and destroyed thousands of acres of prime farmland to get ZERO HOUSING BUILT.

The $8.3 Billion is all just the developer profits before even starting to build."
