Meine Mama hat ein altes Android-Handy von Huawei. Bei ihr funktioniert die vorinstallierte App für die Telefonie nicht mehr. Kann eins die irgendwie umgehen? Gibt es Apps, mit denen eins telefonieren kann, sodass es nicht auf dem Datenvolumen aufschlägt, sondern bei der Telefonie? #fedihelp

I tried using #PulseSMS for a little bit today, because I remember liking it back in 2018 when I actually paid for the service.
I downloaded it and disabled its networking access immediately through #CalyxOS' firewall.
Even though it wasn't able to download ads, it still had blank ad banners, pop-up "buy premium!" screens and premium feature teasers like a thumbs-up icon next to the most recently received text with some small text saying something like "Try reactions!" (which sends you to the TRY PREMIUM! page.
This is without any internet access. It's all just hard-coded into the app.
I don't have a problem with these guys charging for their app, or charging a REASONABLE subscription fee for the service (being able to send SMS through any web browser), but man, apps in 2024 are just SO horrid. :'(
The state of SMS in the FOSS world is still pretty bad.
I either have to live with flip-flopping between #AOSP Messages and #QUIK for the features I need, or whack a great deal of my #SMS history in order to reduce the db size so that #Fossify messages can run reasonably well without burning up my battery.
Ok, sorry for complaining. I'm thankful for #FOSS. :D
Wenn ich #VLC auf dem Smartphone starte muss er jedes Mal erst die komplette Library neu laden und das dauert immer 1-2 Minuten. Jedes. Verdammte. Mal.
Das macht den VLC für mich als Musik-Player unbrauchbar. Kann man ihm das irgendwie abgewöhnen? Warum merkt er sich das nicht? Habt ihr Empfehlungen für andere Audio-Player (bitte nur F-Droid!)?
Ich habe gerade aus Interesse beim Google Play Store geschaut was aus #simplemobiletools geworden ist. Das stellt ja alle negativen Erwartungen in den Schatten.

I o ile sam kierunek znajduję słusznym, to zacząłem się zastanawiać, czy ma to sens w przypadku używania niestockowego ROM-u w rodzaju LineageOS, gdzie aplikacje pochodzą z AOSP lub samego LOS?
Got through some Aurora Store installed apps update. Remembered the #SimpleMobileTools (that I fortunately installed through F-Droid) were sold. Saw that I still had Recorder. Scrolled down to recent user reviews.

Ich selbst nutze bevorzugt Ghost Commander, aber der ist sicher für viele Anwendungszwecke überdimensioniert.
Den Simple Manager von Simple Mobile Tools kenne ich auch, aber der ist wiederum zu "simple", so dass der Fossify Manager auch nicht passen würde.
Nun hat mich jemand nach einer Empfehlung gefragt. Es gibt ja so einige weitere Dateimanager für Android , mit welchen weiteren habt Ihr Erfahrung und könnt sie empfehlen?

SimpleMobileTools ist eine Suite von Apps, die auf sehr einfache Weise genau die eine Sache tun, die sie tun sollen. Kalender, Galerie, Telefon, Taschenrechner, Taschenlampe usw.
Alles Open-Source und ohne Schickimicki. Ich benutze eine ganze Reihe dieser Apps.
Doch die Suite wurde offenbar gerade eine eine Spyware-Klitsche verkauft.
dafuer ist es ja #FreieSoftware und es wurde auch schon gerettet, also wegkopiert und neu angestrichen. nun unter dem namen #fossify im @fdroidorg zu finden.
Si comme moi, vous appréciiez (notez l'usage du passé) la suite des apps #SimpleMobileTools, sachez qu'elles ont été rachetées et ne doivent plus être utilisées ou surtout mises à jour !

QKSMS/QUIK does absolutely everything I need (except for RCS), but can't send #MMS attachments larger than 300KB. It just fails instantly. It compresses them automatically if I turn that setting on, but 300KB JPEGs are pretty potatoey.
The #AOSP Messaging app handles images over 1 MiB with no issues whatsoever. But it doesn't have a search feature, which I need.
