🤦♂️ Great. #Fluffychat is acting super slow when loading a new #Matrix room. I wonder if there's a way I could troubleshoot it quickly because I need to get in contact with #Calckey support to discuss bugs I found.
What is the state of notifications on #matrix#element (android) without #google push service? I mean by that havin own matrix server and no google play service on the phone (only frdoid, no microg)
🇬🇧 I see #Matrix is the next topic I need to explore as it looks like a very interesting tool! I think I was convinced by having Signal, Messenger and others in one app!
🇵🇱 Widzę, że #Matrix to następny temat, który muszę zgłębić, bo wygląda to na bardzo ciekawe narzędzie! Przekonało mnie chyba posiadanie Signala, Messengera i innych w jednej aplikacji!
#Telegram was blocked in my country (#Brazil) yesterday on all ISPs, and soon they will be removed from App Store and Play Store ... that's why decentralized communication apps are so important, apps like #Session and #Matrix are trending here right now.
@cyberghost
Telegram is decentralised long ago. If a set of groups and people misuse signal and matrix and the court orders for data which either signal r matrix fails to deliver and if the court gets angry on that they may ban it. So I prefer using #telegram still for its features and privacy. Telegram is used all over the world(even in banned countries) to avoid surveillance.
This piece recommends Signal or Briar (over Session or Element) as encrypted messaging apps. No mention of Telegram because it is not end-to-end encrypted by default.
Just learned about @simplex and I must say it looks fairly promising as a future #InstantMessaging app to replace #Signal in the long run (I do like #Matrix but it's good to see an alternative and their tech looks solid).
I was not 100% sure about #SimpleX ToS, though, and couldn't find out who the company was, nor their business model (though donation is at least a part of it).
I know this'll be shitty to complain about but seriously.. Why do people still make #Discord servers when they can use other open solutions like #Matrix or #Revolt? :blobcatglare:
We are supporting yet another big greedy #corporation collecting #data on us, we should be promoting open protocols or services that don't do such a thing
There's one main thing I like about #BlueSky, #Nostr, #Cwtch, and the in-development P2P-ified #Matrix over #ActivityPub and Matrix as they're generally deployed now: your ID doesn't depend on DNS.
I've not been in the Fediverse very long, but I've already seen people lose their entire social graph because an admin unilaterally took down an instance. When you tie your identity to DNS, you're at the mercy of the domain owner and every point of control over the DNS as a whole, including the court systems in every authoritarian jurisdiction. Not your keys, not your identity.
I like the admins of my instance here, but I see the toll it takes on them running it even with the community's contributions. It's a lot of pressure and a lot of power to have that much control over identity and trust for your users.
I don't think we have to wholesale move to other protocols, though. The beauty of open networks is the freedom to build bridges. When people do migrate between them, it can and should be as smooth as migrating between ActivityPub instances in the happy path, and remain fully interoperable.
