1/4 From the County of Maui: Unsafe water advisory issued for Upper Kula and Lahaina areas affected by wildfires
The County of Maui Department of Water Supply is issuing an unsafe water alert for areas of Upper Kula and Lahaina affected by wildfires. As a precaution, customers in those areas are advised not to drink and not to boil their water.
"The simultaneous occurrence of rain-driven flooding & landslides, high-intensity winds, & multiple fires complicated emergency response. The compounding nature of the hazards produced during the Hurricane Lane event highlights the need to improve anticipation of complex feedback mechanisms among climate- & weather-related phenomena"
Took a quick peek at the birdshite for #mauifire news and was immediately disappointed. There is already a thriving conspiracy group talking about how it was set off with directed energy weapons, showing time-lapse photos of rocket launches from Vandenberg as "proof."
The #Lahaina / #Maui#wildfire is now the second deadliest wildfire in America. And only about three quarters of the burned area have been searched. The death toll is rising / will continue to rise and is believed to be in the Californian #ParadiseFire range.
Too many people are unaccounted for, still missing.
The Coast Guard reported about 100 people on the shore in the night of the fire. 17 were rescued, 18 found dead, 40 escorted to safe location. The whereabouts of ~25 people are unclear.
