these mermaids live at busy ocean coral reefs and like to decorate themselves with heavy jewelry in form of shells, starfish and pearls 💍they form groups and only the queen wears a crown - the queen is also the most territorial and dangerous, like this one i drew! she just noticed you on your boat, trying to catch her fish above the reef. what's next? 👀
I like the Mermay challenge, even if I seldom draw for it. But there are exceptions, and this is one of them. This is a Common Roach mermaid, as I like to draw one of the common Swedish fresh water fishes. No fancy exotic fish here 😄

It's #mermay! I've got several projects on my drawing board, so I won't be able to join in the fun much this time around. I'll share some of my previous years' favorites.
I'll try to late join #MaySketchADay after little break I've had. I thought of doing Delphic Maxic and so I started with one today but it took me too long so it won't be only these for sure 😅
I don't usually observe MerMay, but MegaMonday offered a rare opportunity for overlap. Here's Splash Woman from Mega Man 9. #MegaMan#Megamonday#mermay#splashwoman
First #mermay of 2023: Red Bellied Piranha Mermaid.
Traditional art drawn with dip pen and coloured with ink washes. Unnecessary tendrils are always necessary.

I´m doing #mermay again, but I don`t have much time this month. So I focus on three artworks this month, and my challenge is to do it in a style of a child book.
More of my rainbow mermaids for #mermay
2 out of 6.
The orange mermaid.
Inspired by koi fish.
They are very friendly and social beings. Their fangs are for devouring smaller fish and aquatic greens.
Always spotted in groups exploring their surroundings.
Remember at the beginning of June, the whole set will be available as prints from my Etsy:

days 39-40 of my #100DaysChallenge of drawing animals. I continued working on some watercolors and more intentionally to be finished stuff - with the result that except for the elephants that were actually finished at this point, the rest is still languishing in my room in the same state like, 2 weeks or so later. Gah. I hope I'll have the energy to actually finish them this week!
For #Mermay my original plan was to do a study of a marine animal every day, and then turn that animal into a humanoid somehow. Alas, that turned out to be much trickier and my energy esp. much lower than expected, so my mermaids are only a bunch of very scraggly ballpoint sketches so far. But the marina animal studies actually did happen, so are some hermit #crabs. Simultaneously day 85 of #drawing#animals.
on day 87 of drawing animals I was tired and completely underestimated how hard giant #Isopods would be to draw for me. I am still a bit confused about it. Might try them again some time when I am more awake, maybe that really was the thing that tripped me up. Still, I did not falter! And still sticking with the marine theme for #Mermay.
on day 88 of drawing animals I maybe stretched the definition of "marine animal" for #Mermay a bit, but I just really felt like drawing #lizards, and these Marine Iguanas dive and feed underwater. The sketches on the left side of the page are all of these guys moving under water. And they have the best faces and claws! I might have to do them a bunch more. Clawssssssssssss.
