A new gouache painting, part of my "cottagecore" series. For this, I used the Zorn palette, one of the most restrictive palettes around. Except the b&w paints, the only other Holbein colors used were yellow ochre, and Chinese orange (Vermillion). The palette creates a very specific, vintage-y vibe which I love.

I’ve been recovering from burnout. It’s not enough to rest. Instead, I found it therapeutic to do things slowly. The last few days I have been mindfully cooking, reading slowly, reordering my pantry and sorted through my kitchen drawer. Regardless of the outcome, the act of doing these things has helped immensely. I think I will change my #BurnoutRecovery hashtag to #SlowLiving from now on.

I have been trying to find balance in the last few weeks after going at full tilt on all cylinders for years. I had pretty ambitious plans for all the things I would do after crossing a number of finish lines in quick succession this spring but I am finding that I need rest and to keep things light. You know? Simple. Just taking care of the kids, working, finishing advanced yoga teacher training, and training for an 80km race. Easy! Recalibrating my definition of rest is a work in progress, clearly. Slowly getting there. But I have been craving photography and sewing lately, still don't quite have the bandwidth for a big session of either. Today though, I figured a compromise was in order. Ten minutes in the backyard with the camera, dust off the cobwebs. A little refresher. Something that I am trying to do this year is #explore my own home. Each month I try something new. This month I finally went for a swim at the #beach. I found this rather lovely hidden gem #FingalBeach
I am not going to lie. The reason I ended up choosing it was because of the name. I got to visit #scotland last year but not #FingalCaves so I jumped at the chance to visit this.
And it was glorious. A quiet beach. A beach away from cities and tall buildings. I saw #Terns and baby bush turkeys. The water was insanely clear and the litter leaf Forrest was so much fun to walk through. I saw the #volcanic rock, #australianwildflowers and cook island. I have a list of things to research and write about and can't wait to start.
I'm sunburnt and exhausted but it was so much fun and I already have plans to go back.
