My avatar: a black and white image looking down the bodyline of a woman in a white flowy dress laying on the forest floor. Small flowers ornament her hair.

My banner: A rocky coastal scene. The left side is filled by a dark greenish blue rock. On the right half, a woman with a seashell crown stares serenely into the camera. Long wavy hair covers her front and white fabric drapes over her legs.

Hear me out. I love winter. I really do. As a native Californian, I will never get over the delight of having the real seasons I enjoy here in the Midwest.
... but I must admit, the lack of blooms to harvest right out my back porch, the distinct lack of roses in the air, and the absence of looking forward to weekly photo sessions with my flowers really has left a hole in my heart. I can't wait to ooh and aaah over my rose arbor again, or get fully stuck in on arranging once more.

Until then, I'll be putting together puzzles of my favorite floral images.
If you're that person, the person who right now feels like peony and rose season is much too far away, then my floral puzzle collection can be a balm for your soul. Pick a puzzle or two to save for a rainy day, or for a cozy and bright activity for two.
Rest assured any puzzle you choose from my shop is human made by me, not AI created.

This year is definitely the year for puzzles. This summer I caught the bug and then it really got fun when folks on a reddit thread requested I make a puzzle option for some of my floral prints. Then some other folks requested some of my pet work, and here we are.
This one has got to be one of my favorites of the puzzles I now offer, though my tabby Celty may feel otherwise.😆

Before I felt comfortable announcing that I now offer puzzles of my work, I of course had to playtest them. So here is my middle child, looking down at a puzzle-ified version of my youngest, contemplating destruction.

I can happily report that I am over the moon with the print provider I chose and the quality is excellent. Nice print, thick pieces, and even some irregular shapes. I can't wait to gift a couple at the end of the month and have a couple more in my cart just for me from my animal rescue photography days, or from my summer garden, and of my own herd.

theandreaborden,

@brook Thanks so much! That is good to know, I really appreciate it!

A bit of a Memento Mori piece with the last of my blooms and the only surviving pumpkin from my garden this year.

A Farewell to Summer, homegrown and cherished while it spits snow outside my window. How quickly a season can turn. Summer, I'm going to miss you and all your glorious blooms.

Despite fearing last week that I'd had my last harvest, I'm very lucky to say I harvested a small vaseful more of dahlias from the garden Friday. Cold temps are now here in earnest today, and here's my little farewell to summer.

I've gotten more than a few requests to make my layflat images into puzzles, and after looking into it I finally have an option. I've made them available in a couple sizes on my etsy: museandmaker.etsy.com

For a love of Tennyson, and of the changing of the seasons he honored so well.

In Memoriam of Summer, with a little help from Tennyson, which reads in part:
Calm is the morn without a sound,
Calm as to suit a calmer grief,
And only thro' the faded leaf
The chestnut pattering to the ground:
Calm and deep peace on this high world,
And on these dews that drench the furze,
And all the silvery gossamers
That twinkle into green and gold:
Calm and still light on yon great plain
That sweeps with all its autumn bowers,
And crowded farms and lessening towers,
To mingle with the bounding main:
Calm and deep peace in this wide air,
These leaves that redden to the fall;
And in my heart, if calm at all,
If any calm, a calm despair:
Calm on the seas, and silver sleep,
And waves that sway themselves in rest,
And dead calm in that noble breast
Which heaves but with the heaving deep.

Realized I somehow missed posting this arrangement, one of my favorites of late. Here I present the epitome of early fall in a vase, a mix of native and non-native ornamentals, all major favorites for the local pollinators (and me!).

A summer symphony of dahlias, native sunflowers, and early fall delights. Fresh cut and arranged from my garden.

I kept trying to arrange this as a full rounded arrangement and kept hating it but my reflector fell on the setup and skewed everything to the side and then suddenly it all looked better.

Featuring the first decent full bloom I've gotten from Koko Loko this season, started as a band size rose, and Bees Choice dahlias, my most prolific dahlia bloomers this season and gorgeous to boot.

Fresh pickins, featuring Lyra Heroica, one of my favorite 19th century books of . It's the book where William Ernst Henley's Invictus (my favorite poem) can be found.

My shoot this evening in the cut flower field was a dream. I did a set that looked like frames taken out of a Sofia Coppola film and I'm just in love.

This is the beauty of bygone summers, being able to relax with a book in the flowers, and it's how I want Summer to forever be seen in my mind's eye.

Celty is definitely a Photographer's Kid because she rarely lets me take photos of her as an adult cat, but she got into this basket and settled in on her own for pictures on this blessed day.

For years I've tried to grow asters, specifically fancy asters. This year I gave up, bought some more common aster seeds, and broadcasted them into my wildflower patch, thinking it'd be a miracle if these came up when my carefully seeded fancy kinds had not.

Lo and behold, my flower patch is full of asters right now.

Another shot of the second arrangement I did today. Full of homegrown fresh picked cosmos, dahlias, gomphrena, amaranth, and wee various stems.

I'm not the biggest fan of bright pink roses but this one has stolen by heart for the white outline her petals start with upon first blooming. This bloom has aged and the outline has receded, but I can't mind too much with how stunning the flower is.
This is the rose 'Incantation'.

The fresh picks this morning make for such elegant display. <3

Homegrown. Full of dahlias, roses, gladiolus, zinnias, rudbeckia, gaillardia, amaranth, and bunchy knotweed.

This stem of blooms was an absolute surprise to me this morning, out of all the gladiolus I've been watching like a hawk. A nice little treat!
