#RamadanMubarak for all who celebrate! In my class, #Ramadan always is an important family ritual for many children and they are happy to let me take part in it. Towards the sunset, I receive photos and videos of the prepared food at home via the school platform, and once we broke the fast together at school at beautifully laid tables and with lanterns in the windows. The children also celebrate Christmas, Advent & Easter with the same enthusiasm!
"The gender identity policy will allow teachers to forego a student's preferred pronouns or chosen name and only call them by their birth name, as provided by the student's parents.
The policy will also mandate teachers to inform a student's parents if the student is requesting to be called by a different name or pronoun."
high school field trip today. our 8th graders visit our two high school buildings to check out the electives and other courses they can select when they are promoted to 9th grade next year
it's a busy day. lots of walking. LOTS of overstimulation. one of our ND students asked to walk with my group bc they feel safe with me, and I'm grateful that I've made that space
I got my fidgets, mantras, earplugs, and we're ready to go!
Isaac Asimov once said, 'Self-education is the only kind of education.' As teachers, our mission is to facilitate this process. Let's empower our students to become lifelong learners. 📚💪
I am completely on track with grading all student work! This is really important to me, especially early in the year, because I want kids to know how I grade, and I want them to make meaningful connections between the work we do in class and the grades they receive
I'm also maintaining loose lesson plans one week out, and my day-to-day prep is manageable
my personal emotions are a fucking mess rn, but at least work isn't making things worse
@MartinVuilleme Both of those are definitely true in my experience.
What I'm always afraid of are admins that go to a third step and say: "You went against the policy and our explicit instructions."
In the case of the story above, I can see the poor teacher being yelled at for using loose sheets of paper or asking the kids to bring in their own notebooks.
Beyond your usual lessons, marking, and emails, what else do you have lined up for today? Collaborating with colleagues? Planning an exciting project for your students? I'm all ears!
