Seeking references #academictwitter --- has anyone done a taxonomy of the ways in which we use anthropomorphic language (to describe computer systems or otherwise)?
I've been reading a lot about the state of scientific publishing. Some people seem to think it's in trouble, but I see signs of health from the various innovations people are trying. Some interesting examples include the use of openreview.net to open up reviews and give credit to reviewers, and the decision by eLife to stop issuing rejections, but open up the process instead. There is an interesting critique of the eLife decision by @MarkHanson located here: https://mahansonresearch.weebly.com/blog/do-we-really-need-journals
It's a weird time for me to be working on a new journal publishing platform, but maybe it's the right time. I've always been bugged by the economics of journal publishing, and that's what got me started working on it. Maybe I should shift my focus to the social process of publishing. The death of #AcademicTwitter hasn't helped, and I don't think LinkedIn and #AcademicChatter on the fediverse have filled the need yet.
This is my life. Every time I get a shipment, I evaluate whether the box will be a good one to ship robots in. The one I got today is perfect for a robot kit. #AcademicTwitter#AcademicChatter @BlackInRobotics
How do we transition entire #communities from X to better welcoming place without meeting them on X first? It is a vexing challenge and I sure don't have a good answer.
My students will soon submit a (digital) poster presenting the results of a small empirical study. Any ideas how to invite everyone to take a look at all posters and foster productive discussions during the last session (in presence)?
How are #altmetrics services adjusting to the decline of #Twitter, especially #AcademicTwitter? Are they giving Twitter mentions less weight? Are they tracking mentions in other social-media platforms? If so, which platforms? Where do they think academics are going? Do they have good data?
I just realized that one of my Twitter threads, then followed by a peer-reviewed paper in English (meanwhile published in open access), has been plagiarized in a publication in a different language. What would you do? I'm considering approaching the journal. #AcademicTwitter#AcademicWriting#Publications#Publishing
I have SUBMITTED MY THESIS AND LIFE IS GOOD!!! You will find me somewhere near champagne for the remainder of the day. @UQPsych#AcademicTwitter#wildfaces
Yesterday I got an email with the subject “Lab 4 Hell” I ignored that part and just answered his question. Today I got an email apologizing for that subject line. Great job buddy! #PurposefulProfessor#AcademicTwitter@academicchatter
