Jen tak pro radost jsem si vyrobil nový kožený popruh na . Snad se vám ta barevná kombinace bude líbit tak, jako mně. A samozřejmě jsem popruh přidal jako barevnou variantu do nabídky.

Tendonitis caused me to put aside the banjo for six months. That six months turned into a year, and then the intimidation of relearning everything again became too much and here we are a few years later.

I inherited a (quite fancy I must say) banjo from a neighbor who passed away recently and that was the extra push I needed to get back into it.

Muscle memory is an amazing thing. After picking through tablature of familiar songs a couple times muscle memory seems to take over.

@kyle sounds like it's going like the opening of "Dueling Banjos". Go muscle memory!

4/26/74 marin veterans auditorium: BUD’S BOUNCE, pedal steel instrumental turned fiddle tune, written by bud isaac, also performed by buddy emmons (who they credit). “in the age of the boogie, the swing is all but forgotten,” richard greene points out. garcia scores a break on DAWG’S BULL but not during SWING 42 or fiddle showcase DAWG’S RAG. nichtern’s I’LL BE A GAMBLER (with maria muldaur on vocals) hits pop-jazz sweet spot. This is my ‘Folk and Bluegrass’ playlist on my personal YouTube channel. I curate the playlist, with 263 live music videos at least weekly. It’s one the biggest of the nineteen I curate on my channel. I’ve collected these for over a decade, and without being too immodest I think I did a damn good job. You can hit this playlist, sit back and enjoy for hours, days even. Or just keep it on in the background on shuffle. My gift to you. BTW, if you’re not already spending the $18.99/month (USD) for YouTube premium, you’re missing out. I’d get rid of all my other streaming subs, including Netflix & Prime, before I’d part with my - Just sayin.

Most of my newest songs have been written on the banjo and my next release will have this extraordinary instrument at its core. While I haven’t thrown my fingerpicks away, playing skin on string has opened my ears and mind to what the banjo can bring to my music. Playing an open backed banjo has connected me like never before as my own body becomes part of the sound.

50 years ago today, a rehearsal at david grisman’s house in stinson beach for what will become the great american string band, debuting later that weekend, feat. on , richard greene on , (old palo alto pickin’ pal) eric thompson on guitar, possibly billy wolf on bass (or maybe taj mahal?) plus mystery players. only 2 songs circulate from longer recording: https://www.shnflac.net/index.php?page=torrent-details&id=088eb3af7d8dede061d7080e91dd55395d2634da [1/2]

3/8/74 grisman’s house: a pair of 1920s hot standards that pop up soon in the repertoire of grisman’s new great american string band, bernie/pinkard/casey’s SWEET GEORGIA BROWN & furber/braham’s LIMEHOUSE BLUES, rich & full & fun. both mark a level-up in complexity from the old & in the way material, moving towards dawg music. 1st appearance of SWEET GEORGIA BROWN in the garciaverse, though LIMEHOUSE BLUES shows up on the ’64 banjo lesson tape. [2/2]

mrcompletely,
@mrcompletely@heads.social avatar

@bourgwick i think it's fair to say that sweet Georgia brown entered the acoustic music world (as opposed to jazz) via Doc Watson in between 64 and 74 though both Dawg and Spud would have known it from Django and many others obviously

You never know what you'll find at the Library!

In this case, it was an unidentified piece written by George Gershwin for the banjo. And @belafleckbanjo was kind enough to play it for us! Enjoy. 🎵❤️
