"Fifteen miles into a 30-mile hike in Glacier National Park, when the blue sky turned black and lightning struck the mountains and made the very soil feel electric, it sure as shit didn’t matter what I looked like."
"Fifteen miles into a 30-mile hike in Glacier National Park, when the blue sky turned black and lightning struck the mountains and made the very soil feel electric, it sure as shit didn’t matter what I looked like." —Krista Diamond on hiking, body image, and giving the body not just fuel, but satisfaction, too.
It’s a shame I never used my hatred for clothes shopping as a motivator for weight loss. I always assumed I don’t like clothes shopping because of my size. Who knows, it’s like a weird chicken-egg situation. Wish I was more accepting of my body without being obsessed. #BodyImage#rant
Between Skins: The Body in Psychoanalysis - Contemporary Developments by Nicola Diamond
Between Skins challenges individualistic accounts of the body in psychoanalysis. Drawing on philosophy, contemporary neurobiology and developmental research, Nicola Diamond explores the ways in which bodily processes and skin experience are inseparable from the field of language and environmental context.
In the 90s, people used to worry about young women ending up with unrealistic body expectations. Due to being exposed to media full of carefully staged photos, of women who'd had an army of people doing their hair and makeup, and choosing flattering designer outfits.
With good reason.
But at least those photos were of real women, however exceptional. Now they get flooded with heavily doctor or artificially generated images like this. What effects might we see in 5-10 years?
We asked a non-binary person to review the new JK Rowling book. They had a lot to say
If you thought JK Rowling’s previous book in her Cormoran Strike series was an unsubtle nod to anti-trans bigotry, the latest instalment really said: “Hold my beer.”
Currently fighting my #bodyImage issues as I try to film my daily Tiktok/Instagram/YouTube shorts despite having a fking #acne breakout, yet feeling the fierce need to reject #sexist#misogynist#patriarchy#doubleStandards that dictate a woman should have a full face of #makeup (but look "natural") to be allowed to show her face online and in public 🙃
Much has been written about the problematic cultural impact of 2001's "Shallow Hal," but Gwyneth Paltrow's body double, Ivy Snitzer, hasn't been part of the conversation. Journalist Amelia Tait spoke to her about her experiences of making the movie, how it changed her life, and how she feels about it today.
If you’re a blogger (of any kind, not just a sex blogger), reply with one of your favourite posts/a post that you think is especially’you.’ Could be something you really enjoyed writing, something you’re especially proud of, one you poured your heart into, whatever.
If you're having a difficult day with body image and you're larger than average (or you're average, which is still described as Too Much), Sarah Millican's hilarious description of loving her belly and fuck off to body judgment might be just the thing.
(If you like her style, Google "Sarah Millican email from my bully" for the time her high school bully wrote her and pretended all was fine - it's a gem)
“I am woman, I am fearless
I am sexy, I’m divine
I’m unbeatable, I’m creative
Honey, you can get in line
I am feminine, I am masculine
I am anything I want”
More of this, please. Empowering lyrics for young girls that aren’t about body parts. As a father of a young daughter, I find this especially important.
