Oasis have dropped a hint that they may be getting back together after their split 15 years ago. The iconic Britpop band, fronted by battling brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, posted a cryptic video on X, with no explanation. Some fans believe it means new live gigs or music. Others are convinced it's aerial footage of Sawmill Studio in Cornwall, where Oasis recorded their debut, "Definitely Maybe," and that the video teases a 30th anniversary reissue. Here's the NME with more details.
As we await clarification, here's a fun question: It's now 25 years since Blur's "Country House" and Oasis's "Roll With It" went head to head for the U.K. No. 1 spot. Most folk agree that the tunes themselves weren't the best examples of the bands' work, but a quarter-of-a-century on, which do you think is the iconic Britpop act?
#NowPlaying The Libertines - All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade 🎶 First listen to the new album. I'm not sure what my expectations are for this. #indie#britpop
Released in 1997, "Bitter Sweet Symphony" is a standout track from The Verve's third album, "Urban Hymns." Its iconic string motif, reflective lyrics, and Richard Ashcroft's distinctive vocals made it a defining anthem of the '90s.
Oasis release their debut studio album, “Definitely Maybe”
Who is this cool, new underground band from England? Are they the new Beatles?
I don’t know, but I do know this is a pretty solid debut album. They had a few singles released prior, and from what I recall were a bit overhyped by their fans in England, so when this dropped, it wasn’t entirely new to me.
Dense guitars and a big sound at a time when grunge was still ascendant. Songs here are catchier, more melodic and lyrically simpler than your typical grunge tune. And the lyrics have elements of the hopeless despair of a monotonous, directionless life.
I had a hard time keeping up with the hype and drama around this band, but over the years, their sound has grown on me.
Another album anniversary - Definitely Maybe by Oasis is 29 years old. 🤯
I saw them at St. Andrews Hall on this tour. Paid $8. Liam was drunk and sat on the drum riser the whole night and fought with Noel. They didn't end up throwing any punches though. I still want my $8 back. One of the loudest shows I've ever been to (besides the Jesus Lizard).
#GreatAlbums1990s – TOP 20 - #Radiohead - #TheBends (1995). It turned out Radiohead had bigger ambitions in mind, but at the time this disc articulated the symptoms behind the vacant eyes you see on the subway or in the hallway between the cubicle and the lunchroom. “High and Dry,” “Fake Plastic Trees” and “Black Star” are basically the blues for well-fed, privileged people who haven’t yet figured out why that smile on the billboard feels like a grimace. #GreatRockAlbums, #Britpop, #RockMusic
I have "Autoplay" enabled on #AppleMusic which means when the current #Blur 🎵 album ended, then it plays "Similar music" and guess which band came on first?
90s 00s music press, radioDJs etc used to drop so much adversarial chat on Blur vs. Oasis. Gladiatorial singles chart, choose your team, bollocks. Pointless when both had good songs.
