Calling on any myriapodologists out there. Is this Scutigera coleoptrata (House #Centipede)? Photographed last night in my downstairs bathroom. I’m aware they are rare in the UK but sightings are on the rise. Body length approx. 25mm. I need #expert#identification before getting too excited (I’m already excited!). I can’t find any prior record of the #species in #Nottinghamshire. Is this a #First#Sighting? Embarassingly the photo reveals I need to dust more!
So. I’m flossing. I turn around and notice an alien on my wall.
It was hunting me and was going to eat my brains.
Fortunately my ninja reflexes enabled me to catch it in a glass and release it into my front yard. But honestly I just wanted to burn down my entire house.
Turns out it’s a centipede called Scutigera Coleoptrata:
Anyone know what species this marine / intertidal creepy crawly might be? Spotted at Albert Head Lagoon in Victoria, BC. Disturbingly large. My incomplete searches for info indicate likely venomous, as well, but unsure how much to humans. My all-time favorite game is the original arcade version of Centipede. This 1982 commercial is for the Atari 5200 version, but it's epic and really nails the weird, frantic feel of the game.
I noticed an intersection of my dear wife’s worst fear and my #Steam library so I made a new collection. Any suggested additions? Clearly I need at least eight. 🕷️
