Another couple of great fav GoTo solutions of mine have always been Duplicity and Duply for those not comfortable rolling their own scripts w/SSH, tar, and/or rsync :batman:

Congratulations to the inspiring #Dr.BruceMiller, who received the Susan Newhouse and Si Newhouse Award of Hope for his lifetime of research into #FTD (#frontotemporaldementia). His brilliance and empathy have touched so many, myself included. At the end of my memoir with Bruce, I wrote about how he was the doctor I wish my father, who had #early-onset #Alzheimer's, had known.

As one of the people interviewed says (I'm paraphrasing), anyone who has been with someone with #dementia knows what is happening. And now me: that the media is not covering this 24/7 is scandalous. Or as #Dr.Gartner says, "Not enough people are sounding the alarm, that based on his behavior, and in my opinion, Donald Trump is dangerously demented."

It's called Finding The Right Words: A Story of Literature, Grief, and the Brain, and it is about my father's #early-onset #Alzheimer's. #Dr.Miller explains the #neurology behind the manifestations of the #disease that I describe. Loss of words was one of my father's first symptoms.

When my father lost words (before he could no longer speak), he'd whistle to show he knew his loss & then try again.
FYI: The reason I sometimes boost the kind words you send me is not to pat myself on the back, but to let people know why I’m here: To bring you news that’s legit and cut through some of the BS.
When others validate that, it keeps me going when some of the more irritating elements of Mastodon make me want to walk away.

My current WIP is a nonfiction account of the year my dad, who had Alzheimer’s, lived with us. I started it several years ago during a brief time when I wasn’t working and made a fair amount of progress, but set aside when I began working full time. I began writing again at the beginning of this year. I’m close to finishing the first draft. I’d like to try and get it published, that being said, I have never published anything, so I’ve been researching and looking for places that accept submissions. There’s a pinned post on my homepage that tells more about me, so I won’t bore you with it here. 🙂

Last night #UCSF was the scene of a joyous celebration in honor of #Dr.BruceMiller's parents, Milton and Harriet Miller. #Music, #art, #poetry, and #science -- especially #neurology -- filled the halls. And lots and lots of love. So honored to be there and to have the #memoir I wrote with Bruce be one of the gifts given to the people who came.
Because today is the 1st #WorldLewyBodyDementia day, I'm sharing a page from the informative & whimsical glossary from my memoir written w/#neurologist, #Dr.BruceMiller. Our goal is to give readers, #caregivers, persons with #dementia, a greater understanding of the diseases of dementia. Providing definitions of terms used by #doctors was especially important to me (not an MD) to include in the book b/c when my dad got sick, we didn't know any of this & it would have helped.
#LewyBodyDementia affects over 1 million people in the US. Today is the first #WorldLewyBodyDay. Here is a link to the #UCSF#MAC (Memory and Aging Center) page that provides a brief explanation of this #disease.
