20% of german voters would vote for a fascist party right now, which would make it the second largest faction in federal parliament, and I’m genuinely scared where this will go. https://www.tagesschau.de/inland/deutschlandtrend/deutschlandtrend-3372.html

testing,

looking at the rise of fascism in germany, i am not surprised at all: we had the writings on the wall for more than three decades, with increased rollback policies in place since 1998

that fascism is openly supported by only one fifth of german voters - this is the true miracle, given that fascist groups have been supported by media outlets, by certain religious groups, by the majority of police forces, by certain business people etc

given all the support thrown behind fascism, it still fails to attract more votes > this is remarkable in a country where millions of people are largely excluded from voting rights, as they do not hold a german passport¹

as soon as this situation is healed, german fascism will be doomed

¹ even citizens from member states of the european union only have the right to vote in municipal elections in germany - they are barred from state elections and national assembly elections

the case of oury jalloh is still ringing the alarm - german police officers burned oury jalloh to death in 2005, but the perpetrators have never faced any dire consequences, despite evidence not only regarding oury jalloh, but also in other cases of torture and murder

oury jalloh's family has submitted an application to the european court of human rights (echr) > in 2019, germany's supreme constitutional court had confirmed the closure of investigations of oury jalloh's death

recently, germany and the indian state kerala signed a treaty concerning the import of workforce for the german healthcare sector:
https://feddit.de/post/1240283

the comments below often are condescending and absolutely unaware that keralites have had an important role in west german healthcare for more than six decades > i think those comments reflect the unawareness among many germans about the important role keralites have had in german healthcare for many decades, to say the least > read those comments using machine translation to understand what i am writing about

here are some insights:

the indian community in germany is not very big: they are no more than two or maybe three lakhs (one lakh = 100.000) > among them, keralites form a significant proportion of pio's (people of indian origin) > the presence of keralites in germany dates back to the early 1960s when the archdiocese of cologne has started importing healthcare workers from kerala

many keralites still work in healthcare today > in some german small towns, your family doctor would be a muslim from kerala, and all, i repeat: all nurses in your german local nursing home would be from kerala, with some assistants coming from sri lanka - many of them being tamils from jaffna

as of today, the indian community in germany is rather small, but they are visible in daily life > moreover, the south asian community in germany as a whole and the indian community in particular are known for their progressive tendencies > so far, the hindutva-led indian government has failed to make inroads into the indian community in germany - this is a rather unique situation: compare this to the usa or the uk!

the amount of cooperation within the south asian community in germany is tremendous: it is quite common that e.g. pio's from karnataka would help their fellows from afghanistan when it comes to grassroots aid in afghanistan, or that punjabis would help tamils doing something similar in sri lanka > i could go on and on!

moreover, it can happen that you may visit a village somewhere in the german outback, and the mayor would be a pio > also the contributions of south asians to german culture are numerous, including art exhibitions and publishing of indian literature translated into german etc

it saddens me that so many people in germany are ignorant of all this! all they still seem to have in mind is a racist campaign dating back some two decades ago when a german conservative politician demanded "kinder statt inder", i.e. "children instead of indians" > see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C3%BCrgen_R%C3%BCttgers#Controversy

i am fed up!

testing,

the german politician mentioned above dared to call workers from romania lazy and unreliable an another occasion btw > now guess which community is working hard to keep german healthcare sector from going under, too ...
