The stills at the fascinating Tomatin Distillery, close to the A9, eighteen miles south of Inverness. This was once the largest distillery in Scotland and it remains an impressive place with some highly unusual features. The Victorian Market in town has been growing its food court and it’s great to see it hoaching today and the new outlets doing a roaring trade. One of them is an Indian street food joint and they’ve got an amazing mural opposite. #inverness

Torbreck stone circle near Inverness, a lovely little ring of shapely stones, graded in size. Visited after a heavy snowfall the day before, with sleet for company.
One of the three ancient Clava Cairns that stand in a line five miles east of Inverness. Dating back some 4,000 years, they are less well known than their near neighbour Culloden battlefield, but every bit as evocative. There's much more to Clava, south of #Inverness, than the three stunning burial cairns: this is the nearby Mains of Clava NW #StandingStoneSunday ... thought by some to be the last remaining stone of a fourth Clava Cairn?
West Town on the north of Loch Duntelchaig - much disturbed but a stunning location (on a sunny day) on a knoll above the loch. Said to be one of 50 Clava Cairns 'circling' #Inverness..... #TombTuesday
A New Year’s Day wander up through Markinch, to Carnac Point and round to Clachnaharry. A beautifully still day and even warm in the direct sun. More in part 2 below. #inverness
