You've seen the Geekbench. You've seen the Antutu.
BUT! How does the iQOO 12 (and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3) handle real world tasks? Video rendering, podcast editing, file compression, and photo processing!
Plus, I'm trying out a new gaming test... We'll see how THAT works this year...

I'm no longer promoting this show on Twitter, so I can really use some help giving this a plug this week! Really appreciate a share, and I hope to see you in the chat! The podcast is live!

328: A Weekend With the iQOO 12, The End of XPERIA Phones, Instagram Chat and Messenger Split, Alibaba Animates Anyone
HAPPY MONDAY!

What a crazy week! Meta might be breaking up Instagram and Messenger ahead of regulators pressuring them. Alibaba is scanning tiktokers to make new AI tools. Verizon bungled some basic security for user data. Alex Jones is back on Twitter. Some REALLY interesting games are coming soon! Sony might retire the XPERIA.

And I've been benchmarking the iQOO 12!

Let's get our tech week started right!

Today's show was a fun romp through tech news headlines, but it was important to me this week, as this is the first time I've ever NOT promoted the show on Twitter https://somegadgetguy.com/2023/12/11/sggqa-328-a-weekend-with-the-iqoo-12-the-end-of-xperia-phones-instagram-chat-and-messenger-split-alibaba-animates-anyone/

A lot of people, around the world, are anti-China (mainland) but are using phone brands like:

Owned by BBK Electronics:

  1. (spin-off of Oppo)
  2. (spin-off of Vivo)

Other companies:
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.
11.
12. (spin-off of Xiaomi);

Owned by Transsion Holdings:
13.
14. Tecno Mobile ()
15.

Aside: Brands 1–14 listed above are available here in the , even though some of those were made exclusively for certain countries and regions (and you wouldn't even see the Philippines mentioned in news and wikis).

Many of these brands already overtook , , , and even in many countries, as far as sales are concerned.

So the question is:

If the accusations and assumptions against these companies are true, where do we draw the line?
