Arvo Toots - My approx 4 year old phone is about to die - it keeps getting hot while charging, even though all its diagnostics say it’s fine. I need a cheapish phone (less than $500, buying outright) and I don’t need a whizz bang camera or anything - just ok for snaps, but I do need to hear - and I need to be able to put a case and hard screen on it, because I’m clumsy. Anyone got recs? I’d prefer not to go Samsung again, has anyone tried ?

is killing it with the next big update for the
After this arrives on my device I think I have to reevaluate my camera ranking. I have the feeling Oppo might overtake Vivo in my ranking.

Any recommendation for a cross-platform (specifically and (if or runnable via the better) that can run on a low to mid-range phone like A17k?

So far I tested:

Haven't tested:

Any genre will do. I still have no desktop/laptop, after the laptop SSD broke, and I want to be able to continue playing on the desktop later.

Thank you for the suggestions!

Patreon exclusive! This took me longer than I thought it would.
I'm not blowing anyone's minds here. Oppo delivered a MONSTER photography option this year. https://www.patreon.com/posts/93474308?utm_campaign=postshare_creator
After updates and patches, the Find X6 Pro is a beautifully polished mobile content creation solution.
What's interesting, we're starting to get a look at next year's phones.
A major focus for phones next year is AI, and camera sensors are likely going to shrink on many premium priced options.
More so than in the last couple years, shopping a year old "ultra" phone is going to be an even more competitive choice against a current year "pro" phone.
Let's take a look!

I must be a block head but for the life of me I can't figure this out. I have a Pixel 4 phone I use for development testing. It's still on Google Fi. I bought it directly from Google. It's been off for several months. I'm trying to get the latest OS update and it says that the latest version of Android is 13 not 14. That's fine. But it says the version I have installed, from over a year ago, is the latest version of Android 13. Am I missing something? Forcing it to go out for the update refresh is returning that I have the latest version. Did Google Drop support for a 4 year old phone getting security updates?

@hankg

At this point, I am not at all concerned with new features that may be baked into the new versions and would be happy with just the security and system stuff that gets updated with with the Play store. I have two devices and one is going to be a crapshoot of getting security updates going forward and that device is less than two years old at this point. I already know that it will not get 14 and is forever on 13. The other is an 8 Pro so we shall see.

Oppo's upping the ante in foldable phones in Australia with the Find N3... but how does it compare against the Galaxy Z Fold5? I have thoughts...

I need to accept the fact when you buy a flagship phone it won't necessarily be better than the previous model. In fact, it can be worse.

A lot of people, around the world, are anti-China (mainland) but are using phone brands like:

Owned by BBK Electronics:

  1. (spin-off of Oppo)
  2. (spin-off of Vivo)

Other companies:
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.
11.
12. (spin-off of Xiaomi);

Owned by Transsion Holdings:
13.
14. Tecno Mobile ()
15.

Aside: Brands 1–14 listed above are available here in the , even though some of those were made exclusively for certain countries and regions (and you wouldn't even see the Philippines mentioned in news and wikis).

Many of these brands already overtook , , , and even in many countries, as far as sales are concerned.

So the question is:

If the accusations and assumptions against these companies are true, where do we draw the line?
