There was a period in the first half of the 90s where straightahead/post-bop #jazz structures were married (successfully) to very vascular, propulsive rhythm sections, and this is no exception, from 1991:
Herbie Hancock: piano/keys
Wayne Shorter: saxophones
Stanley Clarke: bass
Omar Hakim: drums

God Bless The Child by BS&T is a monster. The arrangement is pure genius. Killer horns, hip trumpet and sax solos. You may not have heard it in the last 40 or so years, so give it a spin. #Nowplaying#jazz#vinyl
Rough math — holy cow, Wayne Shorter’s studio output, 1964-65. Again, not exhaustive (see JazzDisco):
Lee Morgan’s Search for the New Land (recorded 1964, issued 1966)
Night Dreamer (rec’d 1964)
Juju (rec’d 1964)
Speak No Evil (rec’d 1964)
The Soothsayer (pictured; tracked ‘65, issues 1979, thanks to Michael Cuscuna)
ESP w/ Miles (rec’d 1965)
Etcetera (rec’d ‘65, issued 1980, thanks Michael)

I bought this album in 1970 while in high school, for no other reason than I was mezmorized by the cover art, and heard that Miles is hip and I should be listening to him. At the time, I didn't get it and shelved it for years. It took being exposed to much more music to understand what genius is contained on these disks. So much history and influences are amalgamated into this music. #jazz#afro#rock#freejazz#milesdavis#BitchesBrew#nowplaying#vinyl
Profile » Marshall Allen: A Century of Joyful Noise
Marshall Allen turned 100 years old on May 25, 2024. Back in 1995, when Allen inherited the leadership of the Sun Ra Arkestra at the age of 71, you would have got pretty good odds that he would not be holding the chair nearly thirty years hence. But the cosmology of the Sun Ra Arkestra, and all who sail in her, is nothing if not strange. #jazz#sunra
happy 100th arrival day to the deputy marshall allen, "dep" as he was/is known inside the @SunRaUniverse arkestra. can't believe i've gotten to see him play as many times as i have (& hopefully will again soon). WKCR is playing 24 hours of marshall today to celebrate. https://www.cc-seas.columbia.edu/wkcr/story/marshall-allen-birthday-broadcast#jazz
Flora Purim doesn’t have an exceptional voice, but she always surrounded herself with great musicians (both American and Brazilian), and created an interesting unique sound. This is one of her best from 1974. Love the track with Carlos Santana’s screaming guitar solo. #Nowplaying#jazz#vinyl
