Seriously heard someone saying they don't listen to many black artists, because they aren't really into rap. Bitch please, feel free to share songs from Black artists from any genre. Here is one of my favorites, if you like this song please check out her other work:

@RickiTarr Errollyn Wallen is a British composer. She used to play in rock bands but now writes "contemporary classical". I've never heard music by her I didn't enjoy!

She also lives in a lighthouse on the west coast of Scotland. A very cool person!

@RickiTarr another one for your growing list - two for the price of one! And what two - Duke Ellington and Mahalia Jackson. This sends shivers down my spine. What a voice!

It is easy to forget what a game-changer the AZ vaccine was: after months of lockdowns and isolation, it gave hope.

Do you think there's ever been a sort of collective agreement in the history of humanity where most people have thought - yep, we're living through such a great period right now ?

I mean - 2012 felt pretty good to me. The Olympics. David Cameron left his daughter in the pub. Savile was outed. Malala survived a shooting. The Conservatives hadn't built up to full steam yet. That guy did a big jump from space. We had Gangnam Style. And that old woman ruined then hilariously repainted that Jesus fresco. That felt like a good year. Although Bieber and fucking Mumford and Sons were still going strong.

(Actually it was apparently a banjolelle. I've no idea what that is. But still.)

Okay, this might sound weird, but this is what I'm thinking of today. I'm assuming most of you know the idiom, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." I know it's about looking at the horse's teeth to check it's age and health, but in my heart I have an alternate history where it's about The Trojan Horse, which doesn't really even make much sense, but it's still living there rent free.

So, does anyone else do this, make up alternate histories for words or phrases? If you do, I'd love examples!

@RickiTarr @Peternimmo Garibaldi biscuits are also know as "squashed flies" and (though I didn't know this until two minutes ago) "flies graveyard".

What wikipedia fails to mention is that they remain my favourite biscuit!

There was a Tory MP on the (radio) news saying it was too early to write the Tories off. He used a football analogy - that you wouldn't call the result of a football match when there was still thirty minutes left on the clock.
He's clearly never been at a football match and seen the home team fans streaming out of the park thirty minutes before time - when they're 10-0 down, including three own goals...

@fkamiah17 that be good news! Though of course we'll have to wait and see, since Sunak seems to want to hang on as long as possible!

If I hear another Tory saying "we've got a plan. Labour don't have plan!" I'll bloody scream.

Frankly, the Tories have been in power for 14 years. If they've got a plan, maybe they should have put it in place during that time?!

Also: I screamed. The cat ran out of the room...

patrickhadfield,
@patrickhadfield@mastodon.scot avatar

I woke up realising why the Tories repeating the mantra "we have a plan!" is so annoying!

It's because even if they do have plan, it's shit.

Boris Johnson had a plan, an oven ready plan, and it was rubbish: it crashed the economy.

Liz Truss had a plan, and it was worse, losing tens of billions of £s and raising interest rates overnight.

Sunak's plan seems to be blame immigrants, blame ECHR, blame doctors and nurses, blame the poor and disabled.

Just go! And take your damn plan with you!
