I bought this album in 1970 while in high school, for no other reason than I was mezmorized by the cover art, and heard that Miles is hip and I should be listening to him. At the time, I didn't get it and shelved it for years. It took being exposed to much more music to understand what genius is contained on these disks. So much history and influences are amalgamated into this music. #jazz#afro#rock#freejazz#milesdavis#BitchesBrew#nowplaying#vinyl
"This is a 90s live gig with #VernonReid (Living Colour, Zig Zag Trio), #DennisChambers (#P-Funk, Santana, #SteelyDan), and JP Bourelly (#MilesDavis, Cassandra Wilson) and is an hour of both accessible and experimental jams of original material, as well as some very eccentric covers of The Meters‘ “Cissy Strut” and Sonny Sharrock’s “Dick Dogs”.
I created a "Kind of Silent" playlist to feed my obsession w/ #MilesDavis In A Silent Way. Selections echo the vibe of the OG (nothing matches exactly): ethereal, proto-ambient, hypnotic, unhurried, spacious, serene, blissful, genre fluid. For patient listening, focused work, or insomnia. YT & spotify links below. Other songs that fit?
I really like this compilation, Circle in the Round, of previously unreleased recordings from #milesdavis that span 1955-1970. It covers 1st & 2nd quintet, electric Miles, and other ensembles. It has alt versions of some classics, unheard tracks, and a cool cover of CS&N Guinevere. Great cover art, photos and extensive liner notes too. #Nowplaying#jazz#vinyl
Jazztodon artist of the week: Miles Davis! I don't even know how to begin about Miles. How about YOU saying something? What would you recommend that newcomers to jazz know about Miles, and where should they start listening?
If you own one #jazz record, it's probably "Kind of Blue" (1959). Second time #MilesDavis changed music, this time by putting George Russell's modal music theory up front for an entire album
"Kind of Blue" isn't just the best-selling instrumental jazz record of all time, or the one that's on every top ten list. Even though advances in music usually come across as noise, it's also one of the best for beginners.
I know this album is compared to Bitches Brew, but I do like Miles in the Sky better. That is completely subjective and may have something to do with growing up with Bitches Brew, having heard it so many times in my life may make me appreciate Miles in the Sky more.
Hey #jazz Mastodon - a week on Friday #ProfDJ's regular slot at Runner Duck Wine Room in #Lancaster is going to be a #MilesDavis night.... 'Miles of Miles' we're calling it.
I'm about to start sorting through my Miles LPs but I'd be interested if there's one track you think definitely should be played on a Miles night.... I have my own ideas, but I'm interested in your opinion so I can get it just right for both the Miles fans & those wonder who this guy is?
