Folks, please go and use this gentleman's home grown search engine. He literally runs it out of his basement. Mikkel is on Matrix as well, and you can message him.

These are the projects we need to support.

I could spend all night on my feeds.

It's just not like the big social media sites where you scroll for a bit, get depressed after 15 minutes or so, and close your browser.

I like this place.

It may be the case that now is one of the BEST apps for (iPhone, iPad) and on hardware.

If @ivory manages to include more services such as , and IVORY could become THE fediverse tool on Apple devices ... :-)

One service that should be included is as alternative to ...

Apparently, Tumblr's CEO stepped on his crank and outed himself as a TERF. We does not abide the TERF. No we doesn't.

If you're fleeing #Tumblr and checking out the #fediverse, welcome! I hope you find a home here. You have quite a few options with #Mastodon, #Miskey, #Firefish #Sharkey (I'm posting this from sharkey.world), and the practically thousands of instances within those. Each have their own flavor and features, so don't feel you have to settle on one off the bat. It's not unusual to see new users sign up on one instance, then eventually move to another, then another before they find the community that fits them best.

Here are some guides to help get you started:

Looking for something more "bloggy"? Bear Blog and Pika are two services offering simple blogging tools with an emphasis on "small blogging". They are unassociated with the major blogging platforms and offer a fresh alternative to them.

Again, #welcome, and I hope you find your home here in the #fediverse!

So, as you may have heard, development seems to be in limbo. But the good folks at @catodon.social and @iceshrimp.social have picked up the ball and run with it. So if you’re looking for an ActivityPub-based solution for your community ambitions, do take a look.

Alright, whats the state of GoTo Social web front ends?

It is time for me to move some projects forward.

@ajroach42 I suppose it would depend on what purpose it would serve.

For microblogging I would still go with for being a mild Masto variant with a couple extra nice features and a maintainer who is more on my wavelength than Eugen. Apart from that maybe try for being a bit lighter but I am still wary if the dev community behind it... and its derivatives are neat but seem to me to place more stress on the browser than any other front end (it makes my run VERY hot lol)

is still the go-to for video but IMO it does little on its own to "foster community" if that makes any sense...but you probably know what it takes to do that with

looks compelling for picture/media sharing...might try that one out since it's :blobcheeky:

Perhaps for long form blogging but like Peertube it seems difficult to get traction for some reason.

Ultimately though given unlimited time I would probably make my own BBS/fourm style fedi app!

I just noticed that the Sora app (for and instances) allows me to create a threaded post in the composter, then send the whole thing out. Nifty!

So… let’s try that out. This was 1 of 3!

I'm halfway expecting #Mastodon users to demand a #ContentWarning for #TextFormatting.

Like, everyone outside of Mastodon must issue a #CW if they use

  • bold type
  • italics
  • a code block
  • a bullet-point list

or anything like that because it irritates those who are still used to the #Fediverse only being old-school Mastodon. You know, just like #LongPosts with over #500Characters.

marqle,

@jupiter_rowland

I realise and many instances have always had larger limits. And there are of course instances like and

But most people will hear about first and there are many instances with longer limits that would suit those people perfectly, if only they could find them easily.

Do you not think?
