I logged in to Facebook a day or two ago to pin a post that basically said: "I'm still around, just not here. My email is ______ and here's a link to my blog. Stay in touch if you're so inclined."

I've had contact with a few folks. I really despise how FB has become so entrenched in my friends lives. I'd love for them all to leave it, but they're too invested.

What is it I was taught?
"Vote with your feet."
I stopped posting about why people should leave a while back. I gave up preaching about secure communication and open source alternatives. Part of me feels like I abandoned them, but a big part of me also realizes that I gave them a means to contact me. I'll reach out to my closest peeps, anybody else...ball is in their court.

I'm just done supporting shitty companies. I'm a stubborn son-of-a-bitch when it comes to my principles, but it can make for a lonely existence at times.

I am in a total state about the state of the world. This bloody Eurovision weekend- Israel getting full points in the popular vote from UK, Germany and many more, right whilst it is launching the worst yet on Rafah - is doing my head in. Reading this timeline - Netanyahu’s, Cameron’s awful statements- is doing my head in. Most of all, the awful suffering in , and the majority of nice liberal centrists really not caring - it is unbearable.

Mike Pinder has died at age 82. He was one of the founding members of the Moody Blues.

It was my late cousin, David, who introduced me to the Moodys. He had an impressive record collection. One day, he pulled out "In Search of the Lost Chord" and played it for me. It was as if somebody had opened this door to a whole new universe for me. I still consider Chord to be the most important album I ever heard.

There was just so much going on. The layers of arrangements, the use of the mellotron, the lyrics...the sheer magnitude of the whole thing. It wasn't just a rock album. It was theater. It was poetry. It was connecting with something so big you felt you couldn't adequately describe it to anyone. To this day, I just tell people to listen to the album. Really listen to it. Give it your full attention. It can take you places.

Of Mike Pinder, I think the most apropos homage to him is..

"He'll take you up, he'll bring you down,
He'll plant your feet back firmly on the ground.
He flies so high, he swoops so low,
He knows exactly which way he's gonna go....."

One last thing about attending protests:

Do have a group.

Do rehearse your protest plan of escape.

Research means of egress specific to the venue you attend.

Be aware of police body blocking, staging and corraling techniques.

@InayaShujaat you have to weigh the impact to your own mental health. If it makes you miserable, then I'd say don't do it. Keep in mind part of being on Mastodon is utilizing the provided tools to curate your experience. Those are my thoughts, at least.

I started out on the fediverse arooooound...I wanna say 2017/18 mebbe? My big start in social media was MySpace. Before that, I had a LiveJournal (which I miss mightily with all my heart). My very first computer was a Gateway PC, back when they shipped them to you in those awesome cow spot pattern boxes. I am trying to de-google my life.

I'm and suffer from . I'm currently unmedicated. I can be damned moody at times, so there's your warning.

Religiously/spiritually speaking, I'm complicated. That will be a long post, when I get around to writing it. My general rule is: I have my thing. It's not everybody's thing, and that's cool. I'm 57 years old and have come to the conclusion that we never truly appreciate the decades we grew up in until we hit middle age.

For a long time, I’m known about Thief: The Dark Project – even seen footage – but I’ve never played it.

Today, I finally played it. And you know what? I now understand why this is considered one of the greatest PC games of all time.

But I also can’t believe this was made by Looking Glass Studios, the same developers who brought us System Shock and Ultima Underworld. For such a short-lived company, what a track record!

I hope some day that someone will re-make this game much like they did with System Shock. As much as I like this game, the max resolution is 800x600, and I haven’t been able to find any mods to upscale it.

Still, this is definitely a classic, and it’s shocking that Thief has never been ported to consoles.
