a lazy Saturday morning listen to Bobby Charles’ self titled country funk style album from 1972 (2014 LITA reissue). With musical support from members of The Band, a chilled out soulful song based record. Kind of a playful humour going on too, which I enjoy.

Working from home which means getting to play some that is not appropriate when the kiddos are around.

William Eaton - s/t / 1978 (Reissued 2020 by Morning Trip records). A blissful and uplifting record of instrumental guitar. The liner notes say some of it was recorded on a 26 string guitar Eaton built called an “Elesium Harmoniom”. It’s a beautiful set of spontaneous performances recorded “in a garden”. With everything going on, good to have some peaceful vibes coming through the speakers.

L’expérimentation sans renier la base, "Paper Crown" en est la parfaite illustration.
Déstabilisant à la première écoute, j’y retourne, et chez moi c’est plutôt bon signe. :)
Allez y ! C’est du bon.

Jazz Dispensary - Hotel Jolie - Beautiful marbled orange . Probably the weakest Jazz Dispensary record I’ve heard, if I’m being honest. But I’m psyched to have just copped the new one online this AM.

Bert Jansch - Rosemary Lane (1971). Maybe the most Nick Drake-like album Jansch did, if only for the hushed tone and pastoral feel. It’s a record of just warm poised guitar and vocals. Great version of “reynardine” the traditional tune. @vinylrecords

Got this record from one of my coworkers along with many others. It's the original 1983 pressing!

Another late birthday gift & I’m the reissue of by & the Attractions.

This is probably my 2nd favourite of the Costello albums, but contains my favourite song, ‘This Year’s Girl’, which is just glorious.

I’ve compared the & it is easily bettered by the 1st UK Porky Prime cut. The MoFi’s too refined, lacks bite & is less cohesive, whereas the 1st UK kicks ass: as it should.

Photo of a record spinning on the skeletal frame of a Rega P8 turntable. The grey centre label reads, ‘Elvis Costello’, just above the spindle. The tonearm is extended and the red cartridge is tracing the second track.

Shrimp Boats (1978) is a comp of two Lionel Pillay bands. Side 1 is a single track with Basil Coetzee on one track (despite top billing, he's only on side 1). Side 2 is an electric group, with the great Sipho Gumede on bass and a front line of Barney Rachabane and Duku Makasi. There's a version of South African jazz classic Yakahal 'Inkomo and a rare cover of Weather Report's Birdland! @jazz

Jeff Wayne's Musical War of the Worlds
1978 Canada pressing

Can't seem to get enough of this album :) which, sadly has water damage/ mould on the sleeves and liners. Safely wrapped in new ones now but...

Question:
I've been using this vintage Discwasher brush since it was new.

I'm thinking it's not really 'state of the art' for record cleaning these days, so I'm looking for a modern solution that won't break the bank. Not interested in ultrasonic (currently). Maybe something like spinclean? Though the Ama$$on prices seem more than it should be worth.

I'm cool with mixing my own cleaning liquid, just looking for something that will let me clean the occasional flea market find to the point where they actually could sound good :)

Thoughts on good cleaning ideas?

Sometimes I just want the hits.
‘Abba Greatest Hits Vol.2’, released in 1979. And I hope loud enough to piss off the abject twat across the road. So many fabulous songs … and ‘Rock Me’. I have such fond memories of this LP playing on my dad’s stereogram when I was a boy. ♥️

Stumbled on a copy of this yesterday and am giving it a first listen. Quieter than likely for an original pressing but it will benefit from a more thorough cleaning. More subdued than I was expecting but it’s setting a proper mood for a leisurely stat holiday morning…

I don't get too sentimental over people I've never met, but I definitely miss Scott and his music impacting this world in the wonderful way it did for years.
