Just 50 kilometers from Johannesburg, in a South African region known as the Vaal Triangle, 1.7 million people are living in a crossfire of some of the most dangerous pollution on Earth. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/environment/2024/03/02/south-africa-most-polluted-place/

68°F (20°C).

SIXTY EIGHT.

And still the average dipshit white colonist Motherfucker in south central WI is lighting VANITY fireplaces, smoking up the entire county.

Like, I get it, Im a cis het white colonist asshole too, but at least I'm not engaging in behaviors intended to impose hardship, harm, and lung damage on my neighbors.

I hate this shit fucking timeline of melting ignorant ass brains around me.

Terminally ill selfish polluting primates. Do better.

#Montreal smog warning, just in time for a current events discussion. An inversion, I think (air doesn't get cooler the higher you go), trapping exhaust and smoke near the ground...

This is the blue colored patch on a 'skew-T' diagram. The data is collected from a radiosonde balloon released near Montreal and presented at https://meteocentre.com/radiosonde

@wyri So I was bored today. Guess when new years hits. I had to merge all sensors per municipality and pick the median values and then iterated in 15 minute intervals #pm25 #feinstaub

Between the wildfires from June to September and the woodstove smoke from October to May, there is no relief from poor air quality anymore.

Opened up all the windows this morning when I woke up, to get some fresh air flowing through. I needed to refresh the air in here ahead of a stretch of hot days coming this week here in the Northeast US.

CO2 levels dropped from 1500ppm to under 400ppm. But, PM2.5 and PM10 ROSE from 2 ug/m3 to nearly 7 ug/m3.

I guess the air outside isn’t fresh as I’d have liked..

Not to condescend to my fellow leftist humanist Christians out there, but as an atheist, I have to ask --

If the Big Guy with a robe, sandles and a beard is "somewhere" up there looking down on you, doesnt it stand to reason that Canada killed his ass dead from asphyxiation the last couple of months?

Seems like their next target is the Pope.

PSA to NYC peeps. Forest fire smoke contains PM2.5 particulate matter. PM2.5 particles are so small they can filter through your lungs and into your blood stream! Repeated exposures to forest fire smoke increases your risk of having a stroke or heart attack. WEAR A N95 MASK! Assume this will become the new normal every couple years.

The importance of indoor air quality

This thread looks at the impact of indoor , not just from pathogens in but also from other air linked to various health problems, and what we can do about it.
